The EU Agri-Food Fraud Network

About the Food Fraud Network

The EU Agri-Food Fraud Network (the FFN) links the Commission and each liaison body designated by Member States, Switzerland, Norway and Iceland.

In collaboration with the FFN, the EC Knowledge Centre for Food Fraud and Quality (in the Joint Research Centre) provides its expertise in food science, and the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) and the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol) carry out necessary investigations.

Cooperation between officials with EU agri-food chain knowledge, police and customs officers with investigative powers, judges and prosecutors' administrations is of the utmost importance to fight fraud in the agri-food chain, both at national and EU level.

Since 2013, FFN members exchange information and cooperate in matters where they are confronted with violations of the EU agri-food chain legislation of a cross-border nature, in accordance with the rules laid down in the Official Controls Regulation.

The FFN allows assisting and coordinating communication between competent authorities and, in particular, transmitting and receiving requests for assistance.

The –contact/cooperation bodies are required to exchange information necessary to enable the verification of compliance with agri-food chain legislation with their peers and, in certain cases, with the Commission, where the results of official controls require action in more than one country.
