Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Albanian *krau, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱreh₂u, *ḱrh₂eu (“limb”). Close to Latin crūs.[1] Alternatively from archaic krahi, definite krai (Buzuku), from South Slavic, from Proto-Slavic *krajь (“end; rim, edge; region”) (compare Serbo-Croatian krȃj, Bulgarian край (kraj)). Similar sense development in Bulgarian край (kraj), крайник (krajnik), краиште (kraište, “limb”).[2]
