About CSR/ES
Exposure scenarios are important tools for improving the safe use of chemicals in Europe. They provide information on how the exposure of workers, consumers and the environment to substances can be controlled in order to ensure their safe use. Exposure scenarios are developed by manufacturers and importers in the context of the chemical safety assessment as part of the REACH registration.
ECHA and several stakeholder organisations have developed a plan for improving the content and use of exposure scenarios during the years 2013-2018, called the CSR/ES Roadmap.
Several industry organisations and Member States have signed the commitment charter for this important collaborative effort. They also share a vision on how information on chemicals can be communicated in the supply chain to promote the safe use of chemicals, as illustrated here (click image to enlarge it):
A wider network has been established, called ENES, the Exchange Network on Exposure Scenarios, that provides broad-based expertise to discuss, review and road-test the actions identified in the CSR/ES Roadmap.
The tasks identified to achieve the aims of the Roadmap are grouped in five action areas. Brief descriptions and links to completed Roadmap products can be found in the sections beneath.
Achieve a common understanding among stakeholders on the purpose of the information in the chemical safety report and the exposure scenario for communication.
Identify the information that registrants need from downstream users so that the uses can be assessed, and helpful information can be communicated down the supply chain.
Develop IT tools to support the efficient generation and communication of consistent information on safe use.
Harmonise the exposure scenario and develop ways for formulators to consolidate the information from single substances into information on the conditions of safe use for their products and communicate it effectively.
Identify the needs of the various industrial and professional end-users of chemicals relating to safety advice, and promote good practices.
