Abstract
In order to fully exploit the potential of broadband networks for various user groups, network intelligence is required. Network intelligence functionality has to be considered in the context of telecommunication services as well as in the context of network architectures.
This paper is based on results of the ACTS project AC068 INSIGNIA which realises an ATM-based Intelligent Network. The paper describes the services which have been chosen by INSIGNIA for prototyping. A general perspective is taken, and several realisation alternatives for network intelligence in ATM networks are discussed.
This work was partially funded by the European Union through the ACTS programme within the project AC068 INSIGNIA.
