This Northern Irish singer formed his first band in 1957 at the age of twelve. A couple of years later he talked his father into buying him a tenor saxophone and took lessons from jazz musician George Cassidy before joining various showbands. His big break came in 1964 when he responded to an ad for musicians to play at a new R&B club. The subsequent band became Them and gave Morrison his first taste of international stardom with Gloria becoming a hit in America. After the band split their producer persuaded Morrison to record some solo tracks and one of them, Brown Eyed Girl, reached number ten in the US. Over the following decades Morrison has released some of the most highly regarded albums of all time including Astral Weeks and Moondance. He has continued to play to sell out crowds and have a string of commercially successful releases.
