The latest movie based on one of Stephen King’s many works already has a release date. The Life of Chuck is hitting theaters on May 30, 2025, with Tom Hiddleston in the lead role. Directed by Mike Flanagan – the filmmaker behind The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Doctor Sleep, and Gerald’s Game (the last two based on King’s books) – the film is split into three acts and tells the life story of the late Charles Krantz in a unique way. The plot unfolds backward, packed with plenty of melancholy but still keeping a hint of mystery in the air.

Although King is famous for having many of his stories adapted for film and for being a master of the horror and suspense genre, some of his works diverge from these themes. The Life of Chuck, part of the novella collection If It Bleeds, is one such story – a reflection on the importance of leading a meaningful life and the relationships we build with others.

Hiddleston, best known for his role as Loki in the Marvel Studios films, also has an impressive collection of dramatic performances under his belt. He feels like the perfect choice to portray the protagonist, and Flanagan clearly recognizes this. “He was a good dancer, but that wasn’t what struck me,” the director shared in an exclusive interview with Vanity Fair, referencing a dance sequence featured in the film. “I wasn’t amazed by the technique so much as the degree of happiness that was radiating off of him. The look on his face made me smile the same way I smiled reading that particular portion of the book.”

To the delight of many fans, Stephen King was involved in the project, though he initially doubted it would appeal to him. The writer has been open about his feelings regarding adaptations of his works, famously admitting that The Shining wasn’t quite what he had envisioned. So, it’s easy to see why he might have been hesitant at first.

Flanagan revealed that King approached the project with skepticism. “His initial responses to me were a little like, ‘Oh, okay. Yeah. If you think that’s a movie…,'” he said. “He did say several times that he thought it would be a challenge to get it supported through traditional means.” In the end, however, King described the adaptation of The Life of Chuck as a “happiness machine.”

If the story’s creator is praising and approving it, chances are it will resonate with the general public. Proof of this is its win at the TIFF People’s Choice Award, where the film was screened and won best picture of the year, deeply moving audiences. With that in mind, it’s safe to say it could be a strong contender for the 2026 Oscar season.

The movie has already got an 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, with some really positive reviews so far. Plus, along with Hiddleston, it will also feature several big names like Mark Hamill, Karen Gillan, Jacob Tremblay, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Nick Offerman, Mia Sara, Heather Langenkamp, Matthew Lillard, David Dastmalchian, Kate Siegel, Carl Lumbly, and more.

The Life of Chuck will hit theaters on May 30, 2025.

Over the weekend an upcoming Stephen King movie adaptation took home a prestigious award, one that carries major implciations for the Oscars in just a few short months. The new film from Doctor Sleep and Gerald’s Game director Mike Flanagan, The Life of Chuck, was awarded the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival. On paper this may not sound like the biggest deal, but for the past twelve years, without fail, the winner of TIFF’s audience award has gone on to be a Best Picture nominee at The Academy Awards, with a few films even winning.

life-of-chuck.jpg

What is The Life of Chuck movie?

Based on the novella that appears in the Stephen King book If It Bleeds, The Life of Chuck is told in reverse order, a structure that is kept for the feature film adaptation, starting with a man’s death and moving all the way back to his childhood. Though it may flirt with the horror genre in places, the TIFF official website notes that the film has a secret weapon, “finding warmth in melancholy.”

Marvel’s Loki star Tom Hiddleston stars as the titular “Chuck” in the movie, flanked by a host of notable stars from major franchise movies including Mark Hamill, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Matthew Lillard, and David Dastmalchian. Fan-favorite recurring players from Mike Flanagan’s other projects also appear in The Life of Chuck including Jacob Tremblay, Annalise Basso, Samantha Sloyan, Rahul Kohli, Michael Trucco, Violet McGraw, Molly C. Quinn, Heather Langenkamp, and, naturally, Kate Siegel.

The TIFF People’s Choice Award usually means Oscar nods

Since 2012, the winner of the Toronto International Film Festival’s Audience Choice Award has secured at minimum a Best Picture nomination, including:

  • Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
  • 12 Years a Slave (2013) – Won Best Picture Oscar
  • The Imitation Game (2014)
  • Room (2015)
  • La La Land (2016)
  • Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)
  • Green Book (2018) – Won Best Picture Oscar
  • Jojo Rabbit (2019)
  • Nomadland (2020) – Won Best Picture Oscar
  • Belfast (2021)
  • The Fabelmans (2022)
  • American Fiction (2023)

Even though the 2011 winner, Where Do We Go Now?, didn’t nab an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture, the three films that preceded it all did, including The King’s Speech (2010), Precious (2009), and Slumdog Millionaire (2008). This means that fifteen of the last sixteen winners of the Toronto International Film Festival People’s Choice Award have become Best Picture nominees.

The only thing currently standing in the way of The Life of Chuck is that the movie does not have a distributor. Granted, after taking home a major award like the TIFF Audience prize it’s almost certain that studios will be trying to make a deal for the project, especially since it carries the weight of potential Oscar gold.

“I woke up this morning to my phone just vibrating across my night stand as I was missing call after call to share this incredible news,” Mike Flanagan said in a video after the news was shared. “I am completely unprepared for this moment, completely overwhelmed by it. The Life of Chuck is a movie about joy and about meeting those moments in your life that make joy and I was completely blindsided by this one. But I’m just overwhelmed and so grateful and so glad that this movie connected with audiences the way we always hoped it would. So thank you to the audiences that came out and opened up your hearts to Chuck and thank you to TIFF for presenting and bringing this movie to its audience, and thank you to everyone who worked so hard on it over the course of the last year. I am absolutely beside myself with happiness and gratitude. Thank you all, so, so much.”

Stephen King movies at The Oscars

Though fans almost exclusively think of King’s work as being in the horror genre, and most of it is, three of the five King adaptations that have been nominated for Academy Awards weren’t classified that way at all. These include: Stand By Me, nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay; The Green Mile, nominated for Best Sound, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor (Michael Clarke Duncan), and Best Picture; and The Shawshank Redemption, nominated for Best Sound, Best Original Score, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor (Morgan Freeman), and Best Picture.

The two Stephen King adaptations to earn Oscar nods that are clearly horror movies include Carrie, nominated for Best Supporting Actress (Piper Laurie) and Best Actress (Sissy Spacek); with Misery earning a Best Actress nomination for star Kathy Bates. To date, Kathy Bates is the only nominee from a Stephen King adaptation to win the Oscar.

The path is clear for The Life of Chuck to make its way toward the Oscars, and it would be a major win for genre filmmaker Mike Flanagan.

Ahead of its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, preview images of Mike Flanagan’s upcoming Stephen King adaptation The Life of Chuck have arrived online. Vanity Fair has a handful of images from the film, which centers on the life of Charles Krantz, who dies at 39 years old…at the beginning of the movie. In interviews, the cast and creators of the movie pitch it as life-affirming and positive, so don’t expect the usual King horror — this is more in the spirit of The Shawshank Redemption or Stand By Me. This is not Flangan’s first rodeo with King, either; he rose to prominence in large part due to his successful adaptation of Gerald’s Game, and followed it up with Doctor Sleep.

The Life of Chuck is based on a short story from the If It Bleeds anthology, which also features the story “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone,” which has been adapted for Netflix and is coming soon. The movie stars Tom Hiddleston, Mark Hamill, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Matthew Lillard, Heather Langenkamp, and a number of Flanagan regulars including Rahul Kohli and David Dastmalchian.

life-of-chuck-first-look-04.jpg

The logline for the project characterizes it as “three separate stories linked to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse, beginning with his death from a brain tumor at 39 and ending with his childhood in a supposedly haunted house.”

You can see some images here, and more over at the Vanity Fair article.

In addition to The Life of Chuck, Flanagan is currently developing a new adaptation of King’s epic series The Dark Tower. He acquired the rights before his overall deal at Netflix ran out and he jumped ship to Amazon Studios, but at present, The Dark Tower doesn’t have an official home.

life-of-chuck-first-look-07.jpg

“Predating our deal with Amazon, we acquired the rights to The Dark Tower, which if you know anything about me, you know it has been my Holy Grail of a project for most of my life,” Flanagan shared last December. “We actually have those rights carved out of our Amazon deal, which doesn’t mean that they can’t or won’t get behind it at some point — you don’t know. But that’s something we’ve been developing ourselves and are really passionate about finally getting it up on its feet at some point.”

It’s likely The Dark Tower will be easier for Flanagan to sell than most.  Still, after numerous false starts and the disastrous performance of the 2017 feature film adaptation, it’s a project with a lot of baggage and likely a lot of studios won’t even look at it.

There is no wide release date yet for The Life of Chuck. The project heads to TIFF this week.

LOKI, Season 2

Tom Hiddleston revealed the biggest surprise he’s discovered while playing Loki for Marvel after all this time. The MCU staple talked about the role being the “great surprise and delight of my whole life” with The Wrap. During their interview, Hiddleston laid out how each MCU movie or show he’s been a part of has managed to make Loki feel fresh and interesting. Going over the actor’s extensive Marvel catalog, he’s right in that regard. From being a villain, to a buddy role with Chris Hemsworth, comedy, tragedy in Avengers: Infinity War, a surprise appearance in Endgame and then the two installments of Loki, there’s been a ton of change over the years.

But, that charming magic he brings to each appearance shines through and has turned his green hero into someone the audience rallies behind consistently. Check out what he had to say about that right here. “The great surprise for me is that it’s been a joy every time,” Hiddleston revealed. “It’s never felt like the same job. It’s always felt new. It’s always felt inspiring for different reasons — different actors, different stories, different themes. And yet all the way through a depth and a range of feeling.”

“I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to play this complex, deep, ancient, elevated character that represents playfulness, spontaneity, unpredictability,” Hiddleston recalled. “What a sandbox to play in.” It’s been a long, lovely ride with The God of Stories. And, fans actually don’t want it to end just yet.

Loki’s Tearful Goodbye At The End Of The Show

loki-tom-hiddleston-mobius-goodbye-finale.jpg
Loki says goodbye to Mobius.

It’s not that much of a stretch to say that Hiddleston has thought about Loki just as much as the writing team has. During the meetings for Loki on-set, Marvel creatives have shared stories of the actors working everyone through boot camps of the key concepts from the Disney+ series to get them up to speed. Loki Season 2 directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorehead even credit Hiddleston for that crushing final line. Looping back to the first Thor, Loki makes the massive sacrifice for all of his family, all of the multiverse really, and it sent a lot of Marvel fans sobbing into the night.

Benson told ComicBook about that fateful day of filming in an interview last year. He said, “Actually, that line was something we were working with on the day and it didn’t originally have the callback to Thor and Tom as we were doing a lot of takes of it because we knew it was his last line in the show and Tom said, ‘What if we did a callback to the very beginning?’ We did, I think one take of it and we were like, that’s it.”

Loki says goodbye to Mobius.

Loki star Tom Hiddleston explained where his heartbreaking final line in the Disney+ series came from. It seems as though Loki’s original appearance sparked the utterance that left a lot of Marvel fans absolutely teary-eyed by the end of Season 2. Variety’s Actors on Actors series paired the MCU actor with Anna Sawai for a conversation. The Shogun actress asked Hiddleston about that last line because of its focus on sacrifice. It seems like the Loki star still remembers most of his lines down to the pauses. Directors Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson asked Hiddleston what he wanted to say for his final read in the series. It only seemed right to take things all the way back to the beginning with Thor. Check out the emotional reasoning down below!

“Our brilliant directors found me and said, ‘What do you think you might want to say?’ I remembered at the end of Thor, the last thing he says is, ‘I could have done it, Father — for you. For all of us.’ It’s full of need, desperation, yearning for acceptance and misguided intention. It’s full of his own broken heart,” Hiddleston argued. “I thought, ‘I wonder if I should say that again?’ But it has a completely different meaning, which is full of love, sacrifice, selflessness and generosity.”

“It’s very similar to what Mariko goes through. It’s a moment of release, and the clarity of defining your own identity in sacrifice,” Hiddleston clarified. “In his last moment, he gets agency. He gets to decide what his life has represented up until this point. His final utterance is one of profound love and generosity. That the journey of a thousand miles has led us here. It was very satisfying and moving for me too, because it’s been such a long journey.”

Tom Hiddleston’s Growth As Loki

loki-season-2-ending-explained.png
Loki Season 2’s finale.

It’s been 13 years since Tom Hiddleston put on that green and changed the MCU forever. His run as Loki is one of the most beloved elements of this entire franchise. After the Disney+ series wrapped up, he’s been on the late night circuit talking about Loki. During a FYC event in Los Angeles, he got asked about the former Trickster God being a villain. For Hiddleston, he doesn’t see it that way. Sure, he did some pretty messed up stuff back in Thor and The Avengers. But, this God of Stories bears little resemblance to the silver-tongued deceiver that captured our attention in the beginning of the MCU. (Well, at least emotional resemblance, it’s still the same actor!) Here’s what he had to say.

“Playing Loki has changed the course of my whole life, no question.” Hiddleston recalled. “And I feel so proud of where we’ve ended up in Season 2. It was very creatively fulfilling to bring something full circle. I always saw him from the very first film as a broken soul with a shattered heart who felt like he didn’t belong … all that grief hardens into grievance. That’s what binds him to Sylvie.”

The Loki star continued, “And the grievance is what drives him to become a villain in the Avengers and the Thor movies, and this second chance that he’s given by Mobius to rediscover that glorious purpose that he feels he’s always been burdened with … it comes in a shape he would have never recognized and would never have anticipated. And it gave him a kind of catharsis that he wasn’t ready for.”

Loki executive producer Kevin Wright leaves Marvel Studios.

Loki executive producer Kevin Wright is leaving Marvel Studios to focus on original movies and TV shows. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news of the longtime MCU producer’s departure from the company. There are no ill feelings towards Disney or Marvel. Wright simply felt like it was time for a change after launching Loki Seasons 1 and 2 into the world. Fans of the character and long-tenured Marvel Studios fans celebrated Tom Hiddleston’s series. Over on Rotten Tomatoes, Loki is one of the highest-rated Marvel TV shows in the last few years.

A lot of that success came directly from Wright. THR‘s piece explains that he drafted the initial 30-page pitch for Loki. When Marvel Studios got orders to make TV shows back in 2018, the producer’s plans for Hiddleston’s series contained a lot of the popular elements that people have lauded like the TVA and the Void. So, the MCU says goodbye to a person that played a big role in getting the Disney+ era back into the good graces of fans.

“I am incredibly proud of my contributions to the MCU and thankful for my time at Marvel Studios and The Walt Disney Company,” Wright wrote in his statement. “The industry has changed dramatically during my near decade with the company, and I can no longer ignore my desire to independently produce original films and television. I extend my love and gratitude to everyone at Marvel Studios.”

Deadpool 3 Got Big Boost From Loki

DEADPOOL-AND-WOLVERINE-TVA-LOKI
The TVA is back in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Deadpool & Wolverine  is the next big Marvel feature heading to theaters and one directly linked to Loki Season 2. In the trailers that have been released so far, the Time Variance Authority plays a massive role in the story. Deadpool gets recruited by the timeline auditors that fans met first on Disney+. (Something seems to be different about them this time though…) Still, it’s one of the massive Disney+ developments to play a central role in one of the franchises’ movies. Wright couldn’t tell ComicBook a ton about the next movie. But, he’s proud that the Loki story was so compelling that other places are picking it up and running with it.

“I think everything we are doing here certainly lays the groundwork for fertile storytelling elsewhere,” Wright said. “I can say from everyone on the Loki team, we are hopeful and excited about the possibility of the TVA being able to— to continue to tell stories at the TVA. I always kind of think of them as our time-based multiverse version of SHIELD that it’s like we can use them in so many places and tell so many cool stories.”

Loki’s Architect Wants To See A Thor Reunion Too

thor-loki-reunion-5.jpg
Could the brothers be reunited?

While Wright might be leaving Marvel, he’s just like a lot of the fans, because he wants to see Loki and Thor together again. The executive producer talked to ComicBook’s Phase Zero podcast about the second season of Loki. During our conversation, Wright explained how things would likely be different the next time that Thor saw his time-displaced brother. They’ve both been through so much while apart, it might be very comforting for an audience to see them together again. The producer won’t be there to see it happen from behind-the-scenes. But, he’s rooting for it nonetheless. Check out what else he told us down below!

“That would always be my hope, is that somewhere, somewhere down the line, somebody gets to tell that story because [Loki’s] so different and because Thor is so different now, too,” Wright said during our interview. “I think that’s what makes it interesting is, in my head — they’re weirdly different, but I think there would just be a deep internal understanding between the two of them. And I think it could be just something really beautiful and cool.”

Loki star Tom Hiddleston addressed fans missing his Marvel character. Backstage Magazine sat down with the MCU star to unpack his future as Loki. Constant fan outcry for his Asgardian hero to be involved in Avengers 5 or Avengers: Secret Wars has the actor feeling reflective. He talked about why his Marvel character remains as popular as ever after all these years. The God of Stories is still sitting on that throne holding the Multiverse together until the next big crossover event for Marvel Studios. Hiddleston has played Loki for years at this point and the fans aren’t quite ready to be done with him just yet. It all comes down to how that larger story matches up with the human experience.

“I’ve realized that, in human consciousness, that’s who Loki is,” Hiddleston offered. “Loki is this ancient, mythic character, who, in our collective mythology, represents the trickster, the transgressor, the boundary-crosser, the shape-shifter—somebody who’s mercurial and spontaneous and unpredictable who will always confound your expectations and wriggle out from underneath your certainties and convictions. Someone who we need and [who] is necessary.”

“Maybe Loki escaping death a couple of times is sort of an emblem of who he is in our culture,” the Loki star smiled. “I spend a lot of time thinking about Loki. You can probably tell.”

Will Loki & Thor Ever Reunite?

thor-loki-reunion-5.jpg
Will Thor ever see Loki again?

Loki and Thor are still separated in the MCU’s timeline after the events of Avengers: Endgame. In fact, poor Chris Hemsworth’s Avenger thinks Loki is still dead after that brutal murder in Avengers: Infinity War. So, the emotional reunion between the two former Asgardian princes is going to be a sight to see. ComicBook’s Phase Zero podcast had the chance to ask Tom Hiddleston about the possibility of a Loki and Thor reunion directly after the events of his last Disney+ series. He says that a meeting between the two brothers “would be one of extreme surprise and confusion, in a way.”

That makes a lot of sense as Thor would be completely shocked at his brother being alive. But,  Hiddleston had more perspective on Loki’s mindset after Season 2. He argued, “Also, it’s really interesting that in season two, a great thread of season two — not just for Loki but for every character, [for] Mobius and Sylvie — is: are we in charge of our own story?”

“You can’t know where you are going until you know where you’ve been, and you have to integrate your past and take responsibility for it so that you can move forward into the future with meaning and purpose,” Hiddleston told us. “And I think both Thor and Loki have had to excavate and analyze the past and who they feel they really are and what they really want. But what’s interesting about family as well — this is just me thinking about it — is sometimes it will be difficult to let go of the preconception of who they used to be. Loki might be expecting Thor to behave in a certain way, or be a certain way. Thor might be expecting Loki to be a certain way.”

The second season of Loki came to an end on Disney+ back in November, and some of the show’s cast reunited this month for an Emmys “For Your Consideration” event. During the event, Hiddleston explained why he never saw Loki as a villain. Before the official panel began, some of the show’s stars caught up with Marvel Studios on the red carpet and revealed what items they stole from the set.

“Souvenirs from the TVA ✅ Marvel Studios’ #Loki Season 2 is streaming on @DisneyPlus,” Marvel shared on Instagram. While Hiddleston revealed he took a TVA handbook, Sophia Di Martino (Sylvie) admitted she took home way more goodies ranging from TVA posters to a machete. You can check out the video below:

Tom Hiddleston Addresses Loki’s Villain Status:

“Playing Loki has changed the course of my whole life, no question.” Hiddleston reflected at the FYC event (via Deadline).

“And the grievance is what drives him to become a villain in the Avengers and the Thor movies, and this second chance that he’s given by Mobius to rediscover that glorious purpose that he feels he’s always been burdened with … it comes in a shape he would have never recognized and would never have anticipated. And it gave him a kind of catharsis that he wasn’t ready for,” he added.

Will Tom Hiddleston Play Loki Again?

This year marks 13 years since Tom Hiddleston first played Loki in Thor. Since then, the actor has appeared in The AvengersThor: The Dark WorldThor: RagnarokAvengers: Infinity WarAvengers: Endgame, and Loki. The second season of Loki ended with a big change for the titular character, who is now holding all of the multiverses together. Naturally, many fans are wondering if the show will be back for another season.

“I don’t know,” Hiddleston recently told Jimmy Kimmel. “I really don’t know. I know that we’ve reached some sort of narrative conclusion with season two, which feels very satisfying to me.”

“I truthfully don’t know,” Hiddleston said in another recent interview when asked about Loki Season 3. “I am so proud of where we landed in Season 2. To go from this lost, broken soul in Asgard, and be given a second chance and learn so much about life that he actually gives himself to protect other people has been such an honor.”

While Loki may not be getting a third season, it’s hard to imagine Hiddleston will never play the role again. Stay tuned for more updates about the future of the MCU.

Season 2 of Marvel’s Loki brought some huge changes for not just the MCU writ large, but its core characters specifically. For Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, that looked like finding the real meaning of being burdened with “glorious purpose” when he sacrificed himself to preserve the timelines. It’s a decision that saves the world, as it were, but also impacts those closest to him, including Sylvie. For Sophia Di Martino, who plays Sylvie, Loki’s sacrifice leaves her heartbroken and grateful — and she says for Sylvie, her own journey is unfinished because she has her own glorious purpose to find as well.

“I think she’s grateful and relieved that Loki has given them all a chance and that they all have their free will restored. Obviously, the sacrifice is that she’s lost Loki, so, she’s heartbroken in a way, but she knows that he’s going to do what needs to be done,” DiMartino told ComicBook.com.

She also explained that Sylvie, over the season, comes to realize that she can never really have “normal” and that she’s on her own journey to find out what her own burden of glorious purpose is.

“I think it might also be glorious purpose, as all Lokis are burdened with,” Di Martino said. “She doesn’t know what it is yet. I think there’s definitely something unfinished about Sylvie and she’s figuring out how to be happy and how to fight the good fight and how to make everything okay.”

Will There be a Loki Season 3?

While Season 2 of Loki left off with major changes for Loki, Sylvie, and everyone thanks to Loki taking on his new role with the timeline, it’s presently unclear if there will be a third season of the Marvel series, though Hiddleston has previously said that he’s proud of where things ended up with Season 2.

“I truthfully don’t know,” Hiddleston said recently. “I am so proud of where we landed in Season 2. To go from this lost, broken soul in Asgard, and be given a second chance and learn so much about life that he actually gives himself to protect other people has been such an honor.”

Hiddleston has also said that he’s not sure if he’ll return as Loki in the overall MCU.

I don’t know,” he said. “I really don’t know. I know that we’ve reached some sort of narrative conclusion with season two, which feels very satisfying to me.”

As for Sylvie, Di Martino says she also doesn’t know when or where we’ll see Sylvie again, but she’d like Sylvie to come back in a more action-oriented situation.

“I’d definitely like to see her fighting more,” DiMartino said. “I just like bad-ss fighty Sylvie.”

Seasons 1 and 2 of Loki are now streaming on Disney+.

Since then, the actor has appeared in The AvengersThor: The Dark WorldThor: RagnarokAvengers: Infinity WarAvengers: Endgame, and Loki. The second season of Loki came to an end on Disney+ back in November, and many are wondering if Hiddleston will ever return to the MCU as the God Mischief.  This week, Hiddleston participated in an FYC event for the second season of Loki alongside some of his co-stars. During the event, Hiddleston explained why he never saw the character as a villain, despite his shady track record.

“Playing Loki has changed the course of my whole life, no question.” Hiddleston reflected (via Deadline). “And I feel so proud of where we’ve ended up in Season 2. Loki shared similar thoughts during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

“I’m aware that he’s made some interesting choices, which could be accumulated into a picture that looks like he’s a villain, and once upon a time, he was making some misguided choices,” Hiddleston said. “You know, trying to take over New York and the Avengers having to assemble to stop him, that was a bad day in the office. LOKI, Season 2

Loki’s Tom Hiddleston shared a new story about Owen Wilson from filming the Disney+ series. The Marvel star explained an excellent addition to his first Mobius interrogation scene. Loki is up for a Hugo award this year and last night, The Ankler hosted a live Q+A about the series. One fan in attendance managed to catch the origin of a subtle detail from the first episode. (Massive credit for Ella the Hiddlestoner on Twitter for coming through with the goods.) Hiddleston explained that Wilson managed to work a personal interaction into their interrogation scene. People love the Mobius and Loki dynamic, and its so cool to see how certain moments came about!

“Mobius is a scholar of Loki, he knows Loki better than Loki does. And, He wanted me to take him through my journey up to that point of playing Loki,” Hiddleston began. “So, I watched some clips and we talked a bit. He asked me, ‘Tom, what what do you love about playing Loki?’ I think I said, ‘I just love that he’s so he’s got such range. I get to play, like if Loki is a keyboard or the piano, I get to play the light keys up top. Of wit, and charm and playfulness. But I also get to play the heavy keys, down in the left hand, about grief, pain, loneliness and loss.'”

“And in this first scene and the first episode of the first season, he quoted that back to me,” Hiddleston revealed. “As Mobius is sort of part of the interrogation, he said, ‘See, I can play the heavy keys too.’ His capacity for invention is just… he’s so spontaneous, he’s so alive on set.”

What’s The Future For Loki?

loki-mobius-reunion.jpg

There’s been tons to say about Loki this week. Hiddleston has been doing the media circuit and he stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to discuss the journey so far. The Loki actor doesn’t know when the God of Stories will return to the MCU. But, he feels very accomplished with chronicling the fan-favorites journey through the multiverse.

When asked about the future, Hiddleston offered, “I don’t know. I really don’t know. I know that we’ve reached some sort of narrative conclusion with season two, which feels very satisfying to me.”

The Marvel actor also mentioned that he didn’t consider Loki a villain at this juncture. However, he playfully noted that the God of Stories made some “interesting choices” during his long MCU run.

“I’m aware that he’s made some interesting choices, which could be accumulated into a picture that looks like he’s a villain, and once upon a time, he was making some misguided choices,” Hiddleston recalled. “You know, trying to take over New York and the Avengers having to assemble to stop him, that was a bad day in the office. I’d like to think that 14 years later he’s making some slightly more generous, loving and heroic choices.”

LOKI, Season 2

The last fans saw , he had found his glorious purpose by stepping out of time to become the God of Everyone’s Stories in the Loki Season 2 finale. It was a moment in the character’s journey that has left fans wondering when they’d next see beloved character and it turns out, even star Tom Hiddleston isn’t sure. During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Hiddleston said he doesn’t know if he’ll return as the character — but he’s also very happy with where Loki’s story has landed.

“I don’t know,” Hiddleston said. “I really don’t know. I know that we’ve reached some sort of narrative conclusion with season two, which feels very satisfying to me.”

Hiddleston also said that he doesn’t necessarily consider Loki a villain at this point, though he does concede that Loki has made some “interesting choices” in his overall journey.

Will There Be a Loki Season 3?

It’s unclear if there will be a third season of Loki, something that Hiddleston himself has addressed previously.

“I truthfully don’t know,” Hiddleston said recently. “I am so proud of where we landed in Season 2. To go from this lost, broken soul in Asgard, and be given a second chance and learn so much about life that he actually gives himself to protect other people has been such an honor.

The Night Manager, Tom Hiddleston’s series from BBC, has been renewed for a second and third season. Production on Season 2, which will now see BBC partnered with Prime Video, will begin later this year in London and South America. The first season aired domestically on AMC, but that deal wasn’t renewed, and BBC went shopping for a new co-production partner for the acclaimed series, which is produced by House MD star Hugh Laurie. According to reports that emerged earlier this year, the second season of The Night Manager will be set in the present day, and will pick up following British arms dealer Richard Roper (Laurie) being taken away by the Syrians at the end of the first season. Originally, reports were that the new season would pick up two years after the first season, but now it seems it will be more of a realtime shift, with the new stories picking up eight years after the original (which aired 2016).

Plans for a second season have been in the works for years, so fans have to be pretty excited to learn that it isn’t getting just a second, but also a third season. It’s also going to be a different animal going forward, advancing beyond the story of the original novel, which was written by John le Carré. The first season fairly closely adapted the book.

According to Deadline, who broke the news of the renewal, Hiddleston will be talking more about it on Jimmy Kimmel Live! tonight.

New director Georgi Banks-Davies, a BAFTA-winner, will take over the reins of the show from Susanne Bier (who knew that you could lose some of your talent if it takes eight years to get a second season?). Banks-Davies has previously directed I Hate Suzie, Garfield and upcoming Netflix series Kaos.

What is The Night Manager about?

In The Night Manager, Jonathan Pine, night manager of a luxury hotel in Cairo and former British soldier, is recruited by Angela Burr, the manager of a Foreign Office task force investigating illegal arms sales, to infiltrate the inner circle of arms dealer Richard Roper.

Season 1 of The Night Manager also starred Olivia Colman, Tom Hollander, Elizabeth Debicki, Alistair Petrie, David Harewood, Douglas Hodge, Antonio de la Torre, and Tobias Menzies. The series was written by series creator David Farr, and directed by Susanne Bier.

LOKI, Season 2

The Season 2 finale of Loki left viewers with a lot of questions, and Tom Hiddleston has even more questions when it comes to Season 3. The second season of Loki broke records with its finale being the highest-rated episode for any Disney+ series, and much of that has to do with Tom Hiddleston’s performance as the God of Mischief. From the first Thor movie all the way to Loki Season 2, Hiddleston’s character has undergone quite a transformation from villain to good guy. Of course, fans are curious to know if there will be a third season of Loki, something which Hiddleston has addressed head-on.

“I truthfully don’t know,” Tom Hiddleston told Variety ahead of the Miami Film Festival. “I am so proud of where we landed in Season 2. To go from this lost, broken soul in Asgaard, and be given a second chance and learn so much about life that he actually gives himself to protect other people, has been such an honor.”

Tom Hiddleston also praised his Loki co-stars, which include Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, and Ke Huy Quan, who joined the show for Season 2. Quan is an Oscar winner for Everything Everywhere All at Once. “I don’t know who said it, but there’s the phrase: ‘If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together,'” Hiddleston said. “And it’s never been truer than for this show.”

Tom Hiddleston uses Thor line in Loki Season 2 finale

By the time Loki Season 2 comes to an end, Loki makes the decision to ascend to a brand new throne to save the multiverse created in the show’s first season finale. Now, Loki is the “God of Everyone’s Stories,” according to co-director Aaron Moorhead. Upon making his decision to accept the role, Tom Hiddleston’s character echoed a line from the first Thor movie, and it was a line that Hiddleston thought up himself.

Towards the end of Thor, Loki yells to Odin as he realized his ambitions prompted a failure. He wanted to succeed, “For you, for all of us!” Shortly thereafter, he falls into the cosmos only to return in The Avengers, where he tried to conquer New York City. As the events of Avengers: Endgame came along, Loki ended up leaving this time to begin his journey in the Loki series as a variant character who would not experience the events of Thor: The Dark WorldThor: Ragnarok, or Avengers: Infinity War. Just as he prepared himself to step out into time and become the God of Everyone’s Stories, Loki looked to Mobius and Sylvie to say, “For you, for all of us.”

Benson told ComicBook.com that the line was all Hiddleston’s idea on the day of filming. “Actually, that line was something we were working with on the day and it didn’t originally have the callback to Thor and Tom as we were doing a lot of takes of it because we knew it was his last line in the show and Tom said, ‘What if we did a callback to the very beginning?’ We did, I think one take of it and we were like, that’s it.”

Marvel Studios has wrapped the god of mischief’s 12-year arc. This past fall’s Loki Season 2 saw Tom Hiddleston’s titular trickster come full circle, in favor of assuming He Who Remains’ mantle, seating himself beyond space and time as the god of stories. While Hiddleston was front and center at his culminating chapter, it took a village to bring Loki Season 2 to life. This included working with FuseFX to create numerous visual effects shots throughout the latest six-episode installment.

“Our primary responsibility was centered around many of the TVA technology effects, including the Time Door and the deletion effect when one is struck by a Time Stick. Both of these setups underwent a comprehensive reconstruction for Season 2,” FuseFX VFX supervisor Kevin Yuille explained. “We leveraged the established look from Season 1 while elevating the fidelity and detail of the effects.”

loki-season-2-vfx
Loki (Tom Hiddleston) executes a deletion with a Time Stick on the TVA walls.

Yuille is no stranger to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having previously worked on Loki Season 1 and Ms. Marvel

“I’d say the workload on these seasons has been approximately the same,” Yuille compared. “Regarding Loki Season 2, it was a particularly special project; every aspect ran exceptionally smoothly, creating such a positive experience that we felt a sense of sadness when it concluded.”

Beyond the Disney+ programs, Yuille was also involved in Marvel’s first venture into live-action television.

“To go back further, Fuse played a crucial role in all 136 episodes of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., serving as the lead VFX house,” Yuille added. “Although I acknowledge it may not be officially considered canon, it was an enjoyable show to work on with an incredible amount of work delivered. On a personal note, those years significantly contributed to shaping my current position in my career, fostering both artistic development and supervisory skills.”

His experience from the original Loki installment allowed him and his team to pick up some elements where they left off, like the aforementioned Time Door and the Time Stick’s deletion effect. That said, Yuille and company did encounter new challenges in Season 2, notably in the form of The Gizmo.

“In essence, it was conceptualized as early Time Door technology that had been repurposed to encapsulate and crush its contents,” Yuille said of The Gizmo. “Since it derived from Time Door tech, the setup shared nearly identical renders but underwent distinct treatment in compositing to achieve a unique appearance. Unlike the vertical slab of glass seen in the Time Door, the Gizmo took the form of a versatile giant cube with the ability to adapt to various sizes. Initially expansive, it functioned as a trap for any object or person, resembling a potent trash compactor.

loki-season-2-vfx-gizmo
Hunter X-5 (Rafael Casal) finds himself trapped in The Gizmo.

“Setting itself apart from the Time Doors, The Gizmo featured internal reflections, enhancing the integration of people and objects with the internal walls,” Yuille continued. “Some reflections were extracted from on-set plates where actors were filmed against moving planes of plexiglass. Others were renders from FX or involved compositing techniques such as flipping performers. This sequence proved to be a particularly enjoyable sequence to work on and stood out as one of the significant accomplishments for FuseFX in this season of the show.”

These finalized visual effects are only achieved after going through various conceptual stages.

“There are many ideas that are left on the cutting room floor, particularly during the process of experimenting with look development for a particular visual effect,” Yuille noted. “The initial approach involves sketching out broad strokes and presenting various options for the client to consider. Once a general direction is chosen, the focus shifts to delving into the specifics—layers upon layers of intricate details. A multitude of detailed options are presented, allowing the client to refine their preferences by selecting what they like and dislike.”

loki-season-2-time-door
Mobius (Owen Wilson) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) stand in front of a Time Door.

With FuseFX molding and mastering the visual effects to Marvel Studios’s liking, anything left on the cutting room floor is usually scrapped for a purpose.

“In general, when an idea is cut, it’s typically for a valid reason and isn’t revisited,” Yuille continued. “It’s worth noting that Marvel is cognizant of the diverse powers and visual effects aesthetics, paying meticulous attention to details such as color, effects animation, and so forth to avoid duplicating a hero’s abilities with another one’s.”

With Loki now in the rear view and a third season not anticipated, Yuille has his sights on a new medium for FuseFX’s next collaboration with Marvel Studios.

“It’s incredibly exciting to be a part of these MCU projects,” Yuille concluded. “Hopefully, our next venture could involve working on a feature film.”

Tom Hiddleston’s appearance at the Critics Choice Awards has MCU fans going through some Loki withdrawals. At the award show, Hiddleston stood beside Key Huy Quan during one of the show’s minor social media moments. The reminder of OB and the God of Stories being alongside each other had people dreaming about the TVA. While Loki is still very much over, a lot of fans are hoping to see Hiddleston character play some kind of role in the Multiverse saga moving forward. At the moment, Loki sits upon throne at the end of time holding all the timelines together to give his friends a chance against the incoming war on their doorstep.

There’s little doubt that Loki Season 2 was one of Marvel Studios biggest wins last year. Hiddleston’s performance next to Owen Wilson and an extremely talented cast stuck in fans minds long after the credits rolled. However, because of the ending of that series, it’s hard to say when will see Loki on screen next. The actor has been a staple o the MCU for over a decade now. As the future seems a bit uncertain, his presence offers some stability in a turbulent time on a number of fronts.

“Loki was last seen in the post-credits scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, where he and Mobius were keeping tabs on one of Kang’s mysterious variants. Loki Season 2 will continue the story of the Multiverse Saga in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

The 2024 Primetime Emmys were — albeit briefly — filled with glorious purpose. During Monday night’s ceremony, Loki stars Ke Huy Quan and Tom Hiddleston joined forces to present the award for Outstanding Writing for a Limited Anthology Series or Movie. The award ultimately went to Lee Sung Jin for his work on Netflix’s hit miniseries Beef.

This mini Loki reunion was one of many that occurred during the 2024 Emmys, which included team-ups of casts of shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Cheers, and countless more.

Who Does Ke Huy Quan Play in Loki?

Quan joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe through the second season of Loki, in which he portrayed the Time Variance Authority technician OB. As Loki executive producer Kevin Wright revealed before the start of the season, getting Quan to join the fold was a unique process.

“We were in London, so I had at least some version of our scripts,” Wright explained. “The way the process works, they’re always being rewritten, but OB was in there, and his introduction scene was almost exactly as originally written,” Wright explained. “I would like to say it was in early spring, which was maybe just two months before we started shooting. We were casting, and Everything Everywhere All at Once was playing in L.A. and in New York, but it hadn’t gone nationwide yet. I think it was going the very next week. We had gotten a call from our casting director who said, ‘Hey, I’m about to put together a list for OB – just initial thoughts. But before I do that, I really think you guys should meet Ke, and I think it should be Ke. I think you guys should meet with him quick, because probably by Monday, he’s going to have a lot of offers for different things.’

“So that that Friday, myself, Justin and Aaron, two of our directors, had gotten on a Zoom with Ke,” Wright added. “We pitched him the show and this character. We shared that introduction scene with him and maybe the full script. And then we called in the big guns that Monday; Kevin Feige got on the phone with him and said, ‘Ke, I know you read the script. I know you talked to the guys. We really think you should do this. I really want you to join the Marvel family.’ And he had already made up his mind over the weekend. It was like, ‘I’m there. I’ve been a huge fan of this for a long time.'”

Will Loki Get a Season 3?

At the time of this writing, Marvel Studios has yet to renew Loki for a third season — something that probably won’t surprise fans, given the note that Season 2 ended on. As Wright explained to ComicBook.com, more stories tied to the TVA are definitely in the cards.

“We are certainly thinking about how we can continue to tell TVA and Loki base stories,” Wright revealed, adding that “what I would say is season one and season two were always conceived as two chapters of the same book. We want to close this book and I think there’s a lot more books on the shelf, though.”

With 2023 drawing to a close, we here at ComicBook.com are once again taking a look back at the year in entertainment and reflecting on some of our favorite movies, television shows, comics and more as part of our annual Golden Issue Awards. While 2023 was a complicated year in entertainment, it was also a year that gave us some incredible television — including male characters. Across a wide range of genres, television offered up heroes, villains, and everything in between. It also gave us characters whose journeys we’ve been on for years across multiple seasons and projects, and others we’re just starting to get to know. For each of them, those characters were a genuine gift to behold on screen.

After seven seasons and countless insane adventures, Riverdale concluded this year and KJ Apa still somehow managed to bring Archie Andrews to life in a way that showed just how complex and human that character — and by extension, the show — really is. Pedro Pascal’s Joel Miller in The Last of Us was an absolute force as he made his way across an apocalyptic world, breaking our hearts each episode as he rediscovered his humanity and reminded us of our own. Tom Hiddleston returned as everyone’s favorite God of Mischief back for another adventure with the stakes higher than ever and took the character and fans on a journey no one could have expected. In One Piece, Inaki Godoy brought the iconic Monkey D. Luffy to life in a way that fans had previously only dreamed of; while Samuel L. Jackson returned as Nick Fury once again in Secret Invasion and reminded us that there really is no one else better for the character. Each of this year’s male characters were impressive and incredible, but only one can be our winner — and it wasn’t an easy choice.

And the winner of the 2023 ComicBook.com Golden Issue Award for Best Male TV Character is…

Tom Hiddleston’s Loki in Loki!

For fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Loki’s journey has been a long and complex one with Hiddleston’s God of Mischief first coming into our view as a full-on villain but ending up as a something a bit more — and a bit more ambiguous — at the end of the first season of Disney+’s Loki. And while Hiddleston has always given Loki incredible complexity and made the character such a delight to watch even at his worst, it was Season 2 of the series that not only showed his skill as an actor, but the true depth of the character as well.

Season 2 of Loki saw the titular character in a light viewers have never seen him before and one perhaps Loki has never before seen himself. This Loki wasn’t scheming or putting himself first or looking for his glorious purpose. Instead, and perhaps for the first time, Loki’s only purpose was doing something good: saving the Sacred Timeline and preventing the arrival of Kang as warned by He Who Remains. Across the season, Hiddleston’s performance showed the nuances of what that unexpected position was like for a character who is very much accustomed to looking out for number one. We saw him struggle, we saw him doubt, we saw him deal with actual fear, and, ultimately, we saw him heal in ways that would have seemed impossible when we first met him. By the time Season 2 came to its conclusion, Loki had not only found his real glorious purpose, but he’d found himself as well and Hiddleston made it all beautiful, hopeful, and heartbreaking in equal measures. It’s a performance that we’ll be talking about for years to come and that’s why he’s our Golden Issue Award winner for Best Male TV Character for 2023.

Congratulation to Hiddleston for his Golden Issues win!

The nominees for Best Male TV Character are:

·      Archie Andrews (KJ Apa, Riverdale)

·      Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal, The Last of Us)

·      Loki (Tom Hiddleston, Loki) — WINNER

·      Monkey D. Luffy (Inaki Godoy, One Piece)

·      Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson, Secret Invasion)

Loki‘s Season 2 finale split up Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson’s Mobius. Now, producer Kevin Wright is telling Marvel.com about the chances of a reunion at some point. Head writer Eric Martin also addressed the question and doesn’t think its going to happen. Now, some fans are going to celebrate that decision as a moment where “the choices stick.” But, there’s no question that splitting up one of the popular character pairings from The Multiverse Saga might make some viewers sad. For the moment, this is just an opinion from one producer and a writer. (Albeit the people who helped build this Loki story that resonated with so many fans out there.) Check out what they had to say and add a Loki and Mobius reunion to your wishlist along with countless other MCU pairings.

“I think structurally, we felt as soon as Loki gets back into the Temporal Core control room, the story’s got to pick up, and you’re going to move into this fully different thing,” Wright explained. “There’s no time to stop down and have that sort of goodbye with Mobius. When you start talking about, OK, we need to carve out some way that we can get somewhere and have a goodbye with Mobius. And Mobius doesn’t know it’s a goodbye. Literally, in his timeline, he’s just meeting this guy. But to Loki, this is goodbye.”

LOKI, Season 2

“It’s a special thing, because Tom and Owen, they have a real connection on screen,” Martin chimed-in. “That chemistry is there. It’s there in person. They work so well together. I think it’s touching for everybody on set because you’re just feeling a little bit of magic. It’s the last magic that everybody will see.”

Will Thor And Loki Ever Reunite?

loki-thor-reunion-season-2.jpg

Loki fans want another high-profile character reunion as well. Wright also spoke to ComicBook.com about bringing Thor back into contact with his brother. Fans miss seeing Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth together on-screen. It’s been so long now. Clearly, the people over at Marvel Studios have been thinking about it too. Wright told the Phase Zero podcast that it would be something he’d like to see. After all, Thor and Loki’s evolving dynamic was one of the longest-running in the entire MCU. They can’t just be running around believing the other is lost to time forever, can they?

“That would always be my hope, is that somewhere, somewhere down the line, somebody gets to tell that story because [Loki’s] so different and because Thor is so different now, too,” Wright told ComicBook. “I think that’s what makes it interesting is, in my head — they’re weirdly different, but I think there would just be a deep internal understanding between the two of them. And I think it could be just something really beautiful and cool.”

What Led To Loki’s Massive Sacrifice?

loki-crying.jpg

Marvel Studios fan-favorite Tom Hiddleston stars in Loki Season 2, returned as the titular God of Mischief for another round of time-traveling hijinx on Disney+ on October 6th. Loki is once again joined by Mobius (Owen Wilson) as the two attempt to keep the timelines intact. After the events of Season 1 saw his variant Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) kill He Who Remains and unleash the wrath of Kang the Conqueror upon the Multiverse, Loki must once again embark on an adventure to keep reality from collapsing.

Loki was last seen in the post-credits scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, where he and Mobius were keeping tabs on one of Kang’s mysterious variants. Loki Season 2 will continue the story of the Multiverse Saga in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel’s latest Disney+ series managed to bring back Loki after Season 2’s amazing finale. A new trailer for What If…? Season 2 dropped this week and fans noticed that Loki and his World Tree were getting into the holiday spirit. While The Watcher looks out upon infinite timelines, he makes a stop to talk to the God of Stories and decorate the World Tree. The image of Loki and Jeffrey Wright’s character is an exact match for a moment from the celebrated finale. There are more surprises in-store when it comes to What If…? Media was treated to a sneak peek earlier this week and with only two episodes show, the possibilities are endless. Check out the return of Loki down below!

Here’s what the company had to say about the upcoming season of What If…?: “Season two of “What If…?” continues the journey as The Watcher guides viewers through the vast multiverse, introducing brand new and familiar faces throughout the MCU. The series questions, revisits and twists classic Marvel Cinematic moments with an incredible voice cast that includes a host of stars who reprise their iconic roles. Featuring fan-favorite characters this season like Nebula, Hela and Happy Hogan, episodes are directed by executive producer Bryan Andrews with executive producer AC Bradley as head writer.”

Will We See Loki Again In Live-Action?

loki-mcu-god-of-stories.png

Bringing Loki back into the picture so soon is going to be a welcome sight for a lot of Marvel fans. Even though this animated version of Loki is a variant. But, a lot of viewers wonder if they’ll see the newly-christened God of Stories again after Season 2. ComicBook.com’s Phase Zero podcast spoke to Loki star Tom Hiddleston about this being the end of the road for his MCU character. During the interview, the actor cautioned against just assuming that Loki wouldn’t be seen in the MCU again. So, it seems like the sun will shine on the Asgardian again.

“It’s so hard because I’ll be completely honest with you, Brandon, I have at least twice in my life said goodbye,” Hiddleston told us. “I’ve written to Kevin Feige and Louis de Esposito and Victoria Alonso and been like, ‘Thank you so much. It’s been like the role of a lifetime,’ and they’ve written notes back saying, ‘Come and see us anytime. You’re always part of the family. We’re always here. You’ve given us so much and tears have been shared.’ So I think I’d be unwise at this point to be conclusive about any of it.”

How Did Loki Become God of Stories?

Loki Season 2 is up for four different Critics Choice Awards. The nominations for the show were announced today and Tom Hiddleston’s MCU character is a name that pops up multiple times. Loki Season 2 is nominated for Best Drama Series, Best Actor In A Drama Series, Best Supporting Actor In A Drama Series, and Best Supporting Actress In A Drama Series. That’s a lot of love for the MCU’s latest Disney+ show. Hiddleston is also not alone in his recognition as Ke Huy Quan’s Ouroboros and Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie get some love as well. Judging by the Marvel fans online, Loki is one of the most crowd-pleasing efforts in The Multiverse Saga so far.

None of the Disney+ series have managed to capture top prizes so far. WandaVision probably got the closest. But, Loki Season 2 could be a surprising nomination at other awards shows this year. Hiddleston is a celebrated actor playing the role that audiences have come to love over a decade of these stories. There’s so much energy behind Loki right now that some fans online have suggested that Loki get a Season 3 so that the God of Stories can herald the franchise through the rest of the Multiverse Saga on the way to Avengers: Secret Wars. Now, there’s no guarantee of that happening now. But, anything is possible in the multiverse.

What Made Loki Season 2 So Successful?

When it comes to the runaway success Loki Season 2 enjoyed, one of the writers for the show thinks they can explain the phenomenon. In an interview with ScreenRant, head writer Eric Martin argued that it can really come down to “making things people want to see.” He also talked about how much of the series was absolutely planned out from the beginning and that helped them achieve the heights that the Disney+ show has enjoyed as well.

“At the end of the day, it just comes down to making things that people want to see. And I haven’t noticed less engagement, because my experience is all with Loki. I’m not sure with anything else, but I haven’t seen any dip in enthusiasm,” Martin said. “I’ve seen an increase. The fans of the show seemed like they’ve only gotten more excited about it. So, I don’t know what to read. We can all kind of decipher that how we will. But I think we made a good show and people like it. At the end of the day, that’s what it’s about–you make something that’s quality. You can connect with the audience, and the audience is going to connect with you.”

One of Loki‘s artists has revealed concept art for the Disney+ show’s dramatic finale. On Instagram, Jackson Sze, a visual artist for Marvel Studios revealed how the God of Stories looked earlier on. It’s pretty similar, all things considerd. But, Sze had one big change, this mysterious purple crystal that Loki is carrying in the image. At one point, the MCU mainstay could have condensed some of the disparate timelines into one object for safekeeping? One things is for sure, fans still want to see Tom Hiddleston’s character pop-up again. The God of Stories angle ensures that this won’t be the end of the road for a fan-favorite. He’s solemnly holding the multiverse together himself until backup arrives during Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or Avengers: Secret Wars. Now, the focus shifts toward the future for Loki and The Multiverse Saga in general. Check out his new look down below!

Sze said on Instagram, “Glorious Purpose! Had the privilege of Supervising the Vis Dev team on Season 2 of #loki I was so fortunate to have an incredible team with me. The best I could ask for really. Everyday was a joy, seeing what these talented artists come up with. I was mostly just geek-ing out at their incredible art. What a treat! Thank you all for making this experience such an inspiration and joy. @wes_burt @kortizart @jeffsimpsonkh @aleksibriclot @mushkrazzdazz @adamwross @alexander_mandradjiev @johnstaubart.”

“Beginning in development we knew Loki was transforming into a higher power by the end of this season,” the artist added. “Here I was experimenting with what that means visually, trying to pull in languages established by Season 1 of Loki, shows like #whatif and from his long history in #marvelcomics More to come! Please check out our team’s effort. Thanks!”

How The Loki Finale Changed?

loki-2-world-tree.jpg

Despite the near-universal acclaim for the Loki finale, things weren’t always set to end that way. During Marvel Studios Assembled: The Making of Loki Season 2, director Aaron Moorhead explained how they grappled with the decision for Loki to destroy the Time Loom. Yes, he wanted to save the TVA, but the crew decided that he needed to sacrifice even more. That decision paid off as MCU fans across the board lauded the decision to have Loki become the God of Stories.

“There was a draft of the script of the very end, the very end. Something wasn’t sitting right with both of us about it. And the issue was, this draft didn’t have Loki destroying the Loom,” Moorhead revealed during the documentary. “He saved the Loom from imploding and then ascended the throne. We all knew something was up, we just didn’t know what. ‘Cause it was like, well he’s trying to save the Loom, he gets the throne, all of this.”

“But the problem was, is that he didn’t have the sacrifice and we realized, why doesn’t he destroy the Loom and then have to take over the Loom’s massive responsibility? He doesn’t get anything out of it. It seems so obvious now, it seems like exactly the right choice. But that was a watershed moment in the development of it, when we realized Loki needs to destroy and become the Loom.”

How Did Loki End Up There?

Disney+ describes the fan-favorite MCU entry: “Marvel Studios fan-favorite Tom Hiddleston stars in Loki Season 2, returned as the titular God of Mischief for another round of time-traveling hijinx on Disney+ on October 6th. As it stands now, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is now the keeper of the World Tree, effectively serving as the battery that powers the infinite multiverse. At one point, however, that wasn’t the case; according to Loki helmer Aaron Moorhead, there was a version of the ending that didn’t involve the World Tree whatsoever. Instead, Moorhead says the Asgardian instead saved the Time Loom and ascended its throne.

“There was a draft of the script of the very end, the very end. Something wasn’t sitting right with both of us about it. And the issue was, this draft didn’t have Loki destroying the Loom,” Moorhead said on Marvel Studios Assembled: The Making of Loki Season 2. “He saved the Loom from imploding and then ascended the throne. We all knew something was up, we just didn’t know what. ‘Cause it was like, well he’s trying to save the Loom, he gets the throne, all of this.”

That’s when Moorhead said the filmmakers thought a much larger sacrifice was needed to make the ending really pop.

He added, “But the problem was, is that he didn’t have the sacrifice and we realized, why doesn’t he destroy the Loom and then have to take over the Loom’s massive responsibility? He doesn’t get anything out of it. It seems so obvious now, it seems like exactly the right choice. LOKI, Season 2

Tom Hiddleston has been around the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Loki for over ten years. In that time he’s crossed paths with Thor naturally but countless others including Iron Man, The Hulk, Captain America, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, Doctor Strange, Thanos, and even different versions of himself. Despite multiple appearances and over a decade of time in the MCU there are still plenty of heavy hitters that he didn’t meet along the way. Speaking with ComicBook.com in an exclusive interview about Loki season 2, we asked the Marvel star which of his MCU collaborators he would liked to have met on screen, and who he might want to see again.

“There are a couple of characters I think… I don’t think Loki ever met the Guardians, if I recall,” Hiddleston said. “That could have been fun, I think. I think he would’ve found ’em intriguing. I think it’s interesting that Loki never comes up, never comes face-to-face with Spider-Man, I think that’s correct. I think he never meets the Winter Soldier, never meets Bucky or Sam. I always wanted to see… Loki and Strange is an interesting matchup, I think. In Ragnarok, I think Strange, that is one-nil to Doctor Strange based on that particular interaction.”

Will he even get that chance though? After the Loki season 2 finale, wherein his character is now at the entire center of the multiverse and seated amid the World Tree. It surely seems like Hiddleston’s Loki is off the table in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, perhaps until something like Avengers: Secret Wars, but Hiddleston isn’t betting against more appearances by the trickster god.

“It’s so hard because like, I’ll be completely honest with you. I have at least twice in my life, said goodbye (to Loki),” Hiddleston added with a laugh. “And as you know, I’ve like written to Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito  and Victoria Alonso, ‘Thank you so much. It’s been like the role of a lifetime’ and they’ve written notes back saying ‘Come and see us any time you’re always part of the family, we’re  always here. You know, you’ve given us so much.’ Tears have been shed. So I, I think I’d be unwise at this point. To be conclusive about any of it. We’ll see, time will tell, I guess. An open heart and open mind.”

Marvel’s Loki gets a New Name

Despite being Loki, god of mischief, for most of his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he has a new name and a new title now, God Loki. At the end of the episode Loki has collected every timeline in the multiverse together, weaving them into his cape and holding them in his hands at the very center of all time, holding everything together, essentially saving the entire multiverse. Confirmed by Marvel after the episode aired, Loki is now God Loki, despite Marvel comics readers thinking it might be the MCU version of Loki, God of Stories (though they are still very similar).

Marvel Studios fan-favorite Tom Hiddleston stars in Loki Season 2, returning as the titular God of Mischief for another round of time-traveling hijinx on Disney+.

For Tom Hiddleston, the journey with Loki has been a long one. The actor first appeared as the trickster god in 2010’s Thor before going on to portray the character across multiple projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — movies like The Avengers, two additional Thor movies, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame as well as his own television series, Loki. In each of those appearances, fans got to watch as Loki grew from antagonist to beloved character worth rooting, a character who has undergone a lot of growth and development along the way. Now, with Loki Season 2 ending and the character seemingly completing his story to become the God of Everyone’s Story, Hiddleston has a message for fans: thanks for coming on the journey.

Speaking with ComicBook.com, Hiddleston said that he’s honored in how audiences and fans have taken to Loki over the years and that he’s grateful to fans for coming along on the journey.

“I will say this, as an actor, I never take for granted that anyone in your audience is going to be a guarantee that people are going to be interested in what I think what I’m doing,” Hiddleston said. “And I have been so honored by the way that the audience has taken Loki into their imaginations for this length of time. And I know Loki means so much to so many for different reasons, and just carrying the torch for the time that I have has been an absolute honor and I’m so grateful to you. Thank you. Thanks for coming. Thanks for coming on the journey.”

What Happened to Loki in the Season 2 Finale?

In the Loki Season 2 finale, “Glorious Purpose”, Loki finally found his glorious purpose, becoming the God of Everyone’s Story when he brought back together the branches of the multiverse, replacing the Temporal Loom for a throne of his own by becoming the World Tree, letting him watch over every timeline in the multiverse.

“One of the early days discussions about how we were going to be treating the entire final episode, especially the last half of the final episode, was we were actually looking at the Wikipedia for Loki — not the comic book character, but the actual [Norse] god, and he was the God of Stories,” Aaron Moorhead, who directed the episode with Justin Benson, told ComicBook.com. Moorhead and Benson kept track of the timelines with a white board on which executive producer Kevin Wright wrote “God of Stories,” a name the former God of Mischief and God of Lies later adopted in the comic books.

“It was just a little note somewhere, and we really, really latched onto that,” Moorhead continued. “So, we feel like somebody who is the God of Mischief, [who] is the God of Chaos and Trickery and all of that, has transformed into — I wouldn’t even say the God of Time. I would say he’s the God of Everyone’s Story, and he’s a librarian that protects it and allows it to flourish.”

Loki’s Story May Not Be Over Yet

While the season finale of Loki marked a very definitive shift for Loki, it may not be the last we see of the character. Hiddleston also said it would be unwise to assume that this is the end of the story.

“I have at least twice in my life said goodbye,” Hiddleston said. You’ve given us so much and tears have been shared.’ So, I think I’d be unwise at this point to be conclusive about any of it.”

[Spoiler alert for Marvel’s Loki finale.] The Sun has not yet set on Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) of Asgard. The adopted brothers teamed up in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, but then Thanos (Josh Brolin) killed Loki in the opening minutes of 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. “I assure you, brother… the Sun will shine on us again,” were Loki’s last words to Thor, who avenged his brother in Avengers: Endgame. But that wouldn’t be the last of Loki: his variant escaped from the past — The Battle of New York in 2012, to be precise — and, 12 episodes of Loki later, took his throne at the End of Time as the keeper of the Sacred Timeline and the entire Marvel multiverse.

With variant-Loki becoming the God of Stories and Thor’s God of Thunder becoming an adoptive father himself, a potential Thor and Loki reunion “would be one of extreme surprise and confusion, in a way,” Hiddleston told ComicBook’s Phase Zero podcast. “Also, it’s really interesting that in season two, a great thread of season two — not just for Loki but for every character, [for] Mobius and Sylvie — is: are we in charge of our own story?”

Time Variance Authority agent Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson) and Loki variant Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) help Loki confront that question when he wrestles with whether to replace He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors) at the End of Time. In the end, Loki doesn’t just become the God of Stories — he’s the god of everyone’s story.

“You can’t know where you are going until you know where you’ve been, and you have to integrate your past and take responsibility for it so that you can move forward into the future with meaning and purpose,” Hiddleston said.

Because literal centuries have passed for this Loki since he last saw Thor during the events of 2012’s The Avengers, Hiddleston noted, “I think initially it would be really confusing, but also they’d been apart for a long time and no doubt they’ve been objects in each other’s mind. And so yeah, I think a reunion would likely be [confusing for them]. We’ll see.”

Loki season 2 producer Kevin Wright echoed those comments, telling ComicBook he hopes “that somewhere down the line, somebody gets to tell that story, because [Loki’s] so different and because Thor is so different now, too.”

“I think that’s what makes it interesting is, in my head — they’reweirdly different, but I think there would just be a deep internalunderstanding between the two of them,” Wright said. “And I think it could be justsomething really beautiful and cool.”

Loki star Tom Hiddleston teased a “hilarious” interaction between Loki and Deadpool. ComicBook.com’s Phase Zero podcast spoke to the God of Stories about the most recent season of Loki. During that chat, we asked about a possible meeting between Deadpool and Hiddleston’s character. The MCU actor would think a lot about the possibilities, but could only promise that it would have the audience laughing. Both Loki and The Merc With A Mouth have an affinity for wordplay. With Deadpool 3 on the horizon and the multiverse completely thrown open, any combination of characters can share the screen at any time. So, the opportunity is there if Marvel Studios sees an opportunity to bring these two silver-tongued heroes into contact with one another.

“It would be hilarious,” Hiddleston smiled. “Yeah. I’m very curious to see what Deadpool would say about Loki. I think he’d be withering. Although Loki famously has a silver tongue, so I think he’d give as good as he gets.”

Will Hiddleston Appear In Deadpool 3?

loki-deadpool-3.jpg

Jimmy Fallon also asked Hiddleston about appearing in Deadpool 3 this week. The Marvel star was the first actor to show-up on The Tonight Show after the SAG-AFTRA strike ended. It feels like the people want to see Loki turn up alongside Ryan Reynolds. But, it remains to be seen if Deadpool 3 will really involve Hiddleston at all.

“I mean, I know they’re making Deadpool 3,” Hiddleston carefully said. “It’s a very good question. I’m thinking of all the answers I could give it. I know that Ryan Reynolds he like, owns a football team in the UK. A soccer team.”

Right after this, Fallon would ask Hiddleston if Loki’s time-slipping abilities might pave the road to bring back some retired superheroes. “Time-slipping, technically, gives Loki some interesting moves he could make,” Hiddleston mused. “I suppose. Yeah. He can move from past, present, future. I know that I can time-slip. I don’t know that other characters can time-slip. Speaking for myself, Loki’s died a few times and come back. I’m still here. So I don’t know that death is necessarily up for grabs. It’s an existential question.”

Will Deadpool 3 Feature The TVA?

Deadpool 3, Owen Wilson, Loki, Miss Minutes, Mobius

Fans have speculated that Loki or at least the TVA could make an appearance in 2024’s only Marvel Studios movie to release. ComicBook.com spoke to Loki producer Eric Wright about the Time Variance Authority’s possibility to show up in future MCU projects. While the executive couldn’t give a definitive answer on that, he did express some hope that other Marvel series and movies would make use of the world they’ve crafted with Loki Seasons 1 and 2. It sounds like things may be centering around the Disney+ show going forward.

“I think everything we are doing here certainly lays the groundwork for fertile storytelling elsewhere,” Wright told us.

Do you think Loki and Deadpool will ever meet? Let us know down in the comments!

[Spoiler alert for the Loki finale, “Glorious Purpose.”] “I assure you, brother… the Sun will shine on us again.” Those are the last words that Loki (Tom Hiddleston) told his adopted brother Thor (Chris Hemsworth) just before being killed by Thanos (Josh Brolin) in Avengers: Infinity War. And so far, it’s a promise that has remain unfulfilled — even after the Loki who lost the Battle of New York against the newly-assembled Avengers in 2012 escaped into a branched timeline in Avengers: Endgame. Loki lives on, but he’s no longer the would-be conqueror of Earth: he’s the God of Stories, and his domain is the entire Marvel multiverse

That means that a Loki-Thor reunion is possible, according to Loki season 2 executive producer Kevin Wright.

The Loki finale ended with Loki ascending to the throne, fulfilling his glorious purpose with great sacrifice: Loki, and Loki alone, weaves together the branches of time to literally hold the multiverse together. And while Hiddleston suggested that the “Glorious Purpose” series finale of Loki brought his six-film, 12-episode, 14-year MCU journey “full circle,” the story of the new God of Stories might not yet be over.

“It’s so hard because I’ll be completely honest with you, Ihave at least twice in my life said goodbye [to Loki],” Hiddleston told ComicBook’s Phase Zero podcast. “I’vewritten to [Marvel Studios producers] Kevin Feige and Louis de Esposito and Victoria Alonso andbeen like, ‘Thank you so much. Tom Hiddleston first appeared as Loki in 2010’s Thor before going on to play the part in The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. When the Marvel Cinematic Universe expanded to television shows, Loki was at the top of the list for his own series, telling a story which started with a moment in Avengers: Endgame and brought the character’s canonical experiences back to those of The Avengers. Though Loki has been killed off more than once, Tom Hiddleston remains in the role ultimately took the character to a new role in the Loki Season 2 finale. As such, Hiddleston says it would be “unwise” to assume he won’t be back as the God of Everyone’s Story

Hiddleston talked with ComicBook.com in an interview coming soon to the Phase Zero channel, opening up about whether or not he thinks Loki’s new throne is the final time and place where we will see him. “It’s so hard because I’ll be completely honest with you, Brandon, I have at least twice in my life said goodbye,” Hiddleston said.

Hiddleston is not announced to be a part of any of the upcoming projects, similar to his Thor co-star Chris Hemsworth. However, should Hiddleston and Hemworth share a set as Loki and Thor, respectively (as Marvel Studios seems to be hoping for), the encounter would be quite different from any which we have seen through half-a-dozen titles.

“I think both Thor and Loki have had to excavate and analyze the past and who they feel they really are and what they really want,” Hiddleston said. “But what’s interesting about family as well, this is just me thinking about it, is sometimes it will be difficult to let go of the preconception of who they used to be. Loki might be expecting Thor to behave in a certain way or be a certain way. Thor might be expecting Loki to be a certain way. So I think initially it would be really confusing, but also they’d been apart for a long time and no doubt they’ve been objects in each other’s mind. And so yeah, I think I wonder a reunion would likely be, we’ll see.”

LOKI, Season 2

The second season of Loki has come and gone, leaving Marvel fans shocked and stunned. Loki has been a bonafide hit for Marvel Studios on Disney+, with the studio choosing to launch short streaming series’ to help boost not only Disney+’s subscriber numbers, but also give characters more of a spotlight. Tom Hiddleston debuted as Loki in 2011’s Thor alongside Chris Hemsworth, and has appeared in several Marvel movies since then. The Disney+ series built Loki up as a sympathetic figure following Avengers: Endgame, and the Season 2 finale will have dramatic consequences for Marvel Studios’ Multiverse Saga. Instead of fans just watching Loki Season 2 on Disney+, they could soon watch the God of Mischief’s exploits on the big screen again.

ComicBook.com spoke to Loki executive producer Kevin Wright about the show’s epic Season 2 finale, where he was asked if we’d ever see Loki episodes on the big screen. “I would love it, and I’ll say this… obviously, the sound mixing is different for streaming versus theatrical,” Wright told ComicBook.com “We did do a theatrical mix of the finale, and that was always like a, ‘Who knows?’ It’s something we talked about with Disney, depending on when the strikes ended and getting everybody together. Depending on how people react to this finale, we’ve got a version that could be.”

Will there be a Loki Season 3?

The first season of Loki ended with a post-credits scene confirming that “Loki will return in season 2.” But the Loki season 2 finale doesn’t have an end credits scene, so the question is: will there be a Loki season 3?

“We are certainly thinking about how we can continue to tell TVA and Loki base stories,” series co-executive producer Kevin Wright told ComicBook. “What I would say is, Season 1 and Season 2 were always conceived as two chapters of the same book. We want to close this book.” Wright added: “I think there’s a lot more books on the shelf, though.”

The Loki Season 2 finale came out the same day that The Marvels opened in theaters, with Marvel Studios looking out for the fans by offering excuse slips in case any viewers were late for work or school the next day. The excuse reads, “Dear *blank*, Please excuse *blank* early from work/school on Thursday November 9, 2023. The Loki Season 2 finale and The Marvels premiere Thursday night, and they cannot miss what happens next in the MCU. Thank you for your understanding. For All Time. Always. Higher. Further. Faster. @MarvelStudios.”

The Loki Season 2 finale has been getting rave reviews since its release, teeing up the God of Mischief for an evolution to something much larger. Spoilers for the Loki Season 2 finale follow. By the time the second season’s finale came to an end, Loki had made a decision to ascend to a brand new throne to save the multiverse created in the show’s first season finale. Now, Loki is the “God of Everyone’s Stories,” according to co-director Aaron Moorhead. Upon making his to decision to accept the role, Tom Hiddleston’s character echoed a line from the first Thor movie and it was actually a line which Hiddleston thought up, himself.

Towards the end of Thor, Loki yells to Odin as he has realized his ambitions prompted a failure. He wanted to succeed, “For you, for all of us!” Shortly thereafter, he falls into the cosmos only to return in The Avengers, where he tried to conquer New York City. As the events of Avengers: Endgame came along, Loki ended up leaving this time to begin his journey in the Loki series as a variant character who would not experience the events of Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok, or Avengers: Infinity War. Just as he prepared himself to step out into time and become the God of Everyone’s Stories, Loki looked to Mobius and Sylvie to say, “For you, for all of us.”

Benson tells ComicBook.com, that line was all Hiddleston’s idea on the day of filming.

Hiddleston’s investment in the character remains unmatched. “In addition to being one of the nicest people on the planet, Tom is the greatest Loki historian on the planet,” Moorhead added.

“He was for many movies and many episodes of a TV show, he was slowly becoming not just the antagonist of the show, but gaining this humanity,” Loki Season 2 co-director Justin Benson said of Loki’s arc in the finale. “Then that final moment, you see he’s fully gaining his humanity, but now he must sacrifice it for a greater good.”

Tom Hiddleston first played Loki in Thor back in 2011. Over the last 14 years, the actor has appeared in The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Loki. The second season of Loki came to an end this week, and it featured a surprising turn for the God of Mischief. Loki realized that he could stop the Temporal Loom from exploding and destroying the branched universe by literally taking matters into his own hands. The show ends with him sitting on He Who Remains’ (Jonathan Majors) throne, holding all of the multiverse branches together. Now that the SAG strike is over, Hiddleston was able to visit The Tonight Show and talk about Loki‘s ending. Hiddleston called it a “full circle moment” for his character, and now fans are wondering if he’s saying goodbye to Loki and the MCU.

“If you haven’t seen it, I will not spoil it for you but I will say this, it all comes full circle,” Hiddleston shared. “It’s the conclusion of season two. It’s also the conclusion to seasons one and two. It’s also the conclusion to six films and 12 episodes and 14 years of my life. I was 29 when I was cast, I’m 42 now. it’s been a journey. I do think in the finale there are echoes and resonances of every version of Loki that I’ve played. And I think, without spoiling, the episode is called ‘Glorious Purpose.’ If you remember in the first Avengers film, Loki comes down to Earth. Look straight at Sam Jackson. There’s Nick Fury and I say ‘I’m Loki of Asgard. I’m burdened with glorious purpose.’ And he’s arrogant and he’s hubristic and he’s entitled and is puffed up and he’s going to take over the world.”

Below, you can read a few tweets from fans who think this might be the end for Hiddleston’s Loki…

Loki‘s sophomore season came to a close this week, and it left the Marvel Cinematic Universe on very interesting footing. The Disney+ exclusive series put Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in a new status quo in the franchise’s space and time, and that has provoked a deluge of questions about what’s next for the character. During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Hiddleston was asked about one already-prevailing fan theory — that Loki, and maybe the members of the Time Variance Authority that have appeared on his show, will cameo in the forthcoming Deadpool 3.

“I mean, I know they’re making Deadpool 3,” Hiddleston answered. “It’s a very good question. I’m thinking of all the answers I could give it. I know that Ryan Reynolds he like, owns a football team in the UK. A soccer team.

Fallon also asked Hiddleston if Loki’s time-slipping abilities could allow him to access any character in the franchise, even if they’re already dead.

“Time-slipping, technically, gives Loki some interesting moves he could make,” Hiddleston added. “I suppose. Yeah. He can move from past, present, future. I know that I can time-slip. I don’t know that other characters can time-slip. Speaking for myself, Loki’s died a few times and come back. I’m still here. So I don’t know that death is necessarily up for grabs. It’s an existential question.”

What Is Deadpool 3 About?

Deadpool 3 will star Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson / Deadpool, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapičić as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, and Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen in currently-unknown roles. Jennifer Garner will be reprising her role as Elektra. The film is directed by Shawn Levy, and plot details are currently unknown at this time.

“I think you’re giving me too much credit,” Reynolds explained in a previous interview with Collider. “I don’t believe that I’m responsible for Hugh coming back. I always wanted Hugh to come back. My first meeting with Kevin Feige when Disney bought Fox years ago, maybe three years ago, or three and a half, four years ago, I’m not sure, was about doing a movie with the two of us, a Deadpool Wolverine movie. And that was not possible at the time. And then Hugh just happened to call at that perfect moment and express that he’d be interested in coming back and doing this one more time. And the contents of that conversation, I’ll let Hugh, because I know it’s only inevitable that you and Hugh are going to speak at some point soon, I’m sure. I’ll let Hugh answer that on his own. But he expressed interest in coming back, and then it was my job to take that to Kevin Feige one more time and sell it.”

Marvel Studios fan-favorite Tom Hiddleston stars in Loki Season 2, returning as the titular God of Mischief for another round of time-traveling hijinx on Disney+ on October 5th. Loki is once again joined by Mobius (Owen Wilson) as the two attempt to keep the timelines intact. Now that the Actors’ Strike is over, Marvel stars can officially talk about their projects, and Loki himself Tom Hiddleston didn’t waste any time. The longtime Marvel star appeared Friday night on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to promote the second season of Lok as well as the season finale that just aired yesterday. Fallon prodded Hiddleston to open up about the series and tease the season finale now that he can actually speak about it, and the

If you haven’t seen it, I will not spoil it for you but I will say this, it all comes full circle,” Hiddleston teased about the Loki season 2 finale. “It’s the conclusion of season two. It’s also the conclusion to seasons one and two. It’s also the conclusion to six films and 12 episodes and 14 years of my life. I was 29 when I was cast, I’m 42 now. it’s been a journey. Hiddleston continued, “At the beginning of season one, Mobius, played by Owen Wilson, the best ever, he basically shows Loki that the glorious purpose was a fallacy and he gets kind of a second chance. And that I think was the most exciting thing about this show was seeing Loki try to rethink and rediscover that sense of purpose, which we can all relate to. I think we all wonder if we’re in charge of our own story, can a leopard change its spots? Do we have any freewill? And in exercising your free will you make choices in your own life, either you get a black coffee or a latte or a cappuccino. that’s a choice. I mean, it’s a small choice. Every choice you make adds up to the picture of your life and do those choices inform your purpose and I think all of us as people want happy lives, but that we also want lives with a purpose. And that’s really what the show is talking about.”

Loki spoilers follow!

Marvel fans that have seen the Loki season 2 finale know exactly what Tom Hiddleston is referring to in this moment. Loki season 2 saw the title hero fully harness his time slipping into a new super power. As a result he was able to go back and forth to several different points in time, not only making peace with his fellow characters but setting him up for a wild new chapter as a character in the MCU.

Loki season 2 ending explained

  • Loki returns to the moment in season 2 when they’re attempting to repair the Time Loom and takes on the responsibility himself.
  • Loki exits the TVA and walks towards the branches of the sacred timeline, noting he “I know what kind of god I need to be…for you. For all of us.”
  • As Loki exits and starts walking toward the timeline his clothes dissolve from the temporal radiation, but his magic grows him not only a new costume but a fresh set of Loki horns on his head.
  • Loki continues to march forward, grabbing pieces of the timeline and enriching them with his magic and power to give them life. All while holding them together and steady, Loki creates a rift in time and walks through.
  • When the Loki episode reveals where he is, he’s collected every timeline in the multiverse together, weaving them into his cape and holding them in his hands. Loki takes his seat at the center of all time, holding everything together, essentially saving the entire multiverse.

Loki‘s sophomore season is now in the books, capping off a surprising set of storytelling within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Disney+ series has left a lot of narrative threads that could tie into the franchise’s future, especially once the Multiverse Saga culminates with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. The centerpiece of this was the fate of Loki (Tom Hiddleston) himself, and it has sparked one question from fans — is he operating as the saga’s new version of He Who Remains? Spoilers for the Season 2 finale of Loki, “Glorious Purpose”, below! Only look if you want to know!

The episode culminated, after many time loops and failed starts, in Loki realizing that he, alone, can stop the Temporal Loom from exploding and destroying any stray universes. He braves the walk to the Temporal Loom and uses his powers to grab the strands of the multiverse, allowing them to coexist freely, instead of dying inside of the Loom. He then opens a hole in the space-time continuum, reemerging at the ruins of He Who Remains’ palace at the end of time. He sits upon the remains of He Who Remains’ throne, holding the strands of the multiverse together — as we learn that the strands now form The World Tree.

Is Loki the New He Who Remains?

While the creation of The World Tree is significant in and of itself, Loki‘s new role in solitude easily earned comparisons to how He Who Remains functioned in Season 1. While it’s undeniable that Loki is functioning as the keeper of time and space, an argument can be made that he is now in service of the larger multiverse, while He Who Remains was only concerned with maintaining the Sacred Timeline and keeping any other Kang variants at bay. Instead, Loki is dedicating his “glorious purpose” to allowing as much of the multiverse to thrive as possible — even if incursions might still be on the horizon.

There are other characters or components of Secret Wars canon that Loki’s fate is similar to, with shades of The Beyonder and God Emperor Doom. But it feels like a disservice to boil down Loki’s new status quo to those characters, or to He Who Remains. His role seems to be taking elements from all of them, as well as his “God of Stories” status quo within Marvel Comics itself.

[Spoiler alert for the Loki season 2 finale, “Glorious Purpose.”] “I am Loki of Asgard, and I am burdened with glorious purpose.” So said Loki (Tom Hiddleston) when the God of Mischief inadvertently assembled Earth’s mightiest heroes in The Avengers… only to escape from the Battle of New York of 2012 into a branched timeline. Since then, Loki has been out of time — and outside of time and space — working with Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson) and the Time Variance Authority to save the Sacred Timeline from a reality-destroying multiversal war waged by Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors).

Before we get to the end of Thursday’s Loki finale, “Glorious Purpose,” we have to rewind time and start at the beginning.

Loki Season 2 Episode 6 Recap

Loki has spent the season slipping through time and burdened with glorious purpose: stop the Temporal Loom from melting down, which destroys the TVA, which is the only thing that can protect the Sacred Timeline against Kang the Conqueror. As Ouroboros (Ke Huy Quan) explains, the Temporal Loom refines raw time into physical timeline. Because it’s not constructed to weave together the infinitely-growing branches that TVA General Dox (Kate Dickie) ordered be pruned, the Temporal Loom is overloaded. That means turning timelines into “spaghetti.”

After spending centuries mastering physics, mechanics, and engineering, Loki creates a device to help19th-century inventor Victor Timely (Majors) — a variant of Kang and He Who Remains — complete the Throughput Multiplier to stabilize the Loom and reweave the branches of time duplicating and expanding at an infinite rate, thus creating an infinitely-growing multiverse. No matter how many times Loki resets time, the branching timelines are doomed to end in disaster: the Loom melts down and spaghettifies everything every time. Always.

Loki masters his time-slipping to return even further in time: back to the first season finale to stop Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) from killing He Who Remains at the Citadel at the End of Time, thereby giving everyone free will — but at the cost of causing the timelines to branch off into the multiverse and inevitably leading to another multiversal war.

As it turns out, the Temporal Loom is He Who Remains’ fail-safe: when it’s overloaded with branches, it deletes ones that aren’t supposed to be there. Everything except the Sacred Timeline. Worse, there are an infinite number of Kang variants across the multiverse, and only He Who Remains can protect everyone from a multiversal war where nothing — not even the Sacred Timeline — survives. After propositioning Loki to take his throne and succeed him in his domain over time, He Who Remains then gives Loki a choice: break the Loom and cause a war that ends everything, or kill Sylvie and save something.

Loki Season 2 Finale Ending, Explained

“Do you really want to be the god who takes away everyone’s free will so you can protect that?” Sylvie asks Loki, who responds: “What good is free will if everyone’s dead?” But she’s lived through enough apocalypses to know: sometimes it’s okay to destroy something. But, Loki counters, only if “there’s a hope that you can replace that thing with something better.”

Loki time travels back to the present TVA, where his friends — Sylvie, Mobius, O.B., Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku), and Casey (Eugene Cordero) — were once wiped out by the Temporal Loom’s meltdown. “I know what kind of god I need to be for you,” Loki tells Sylvie. “For all of us.” Loki then exposes himself to the Temporal energy that should peel off his skin and turn him into spaghetti… but instead, he’s transformed. Revealing a new green suit with a cape and a crown, Loki unspools the timelines when he destroys the Loom with his magic. Loki then weaves together the blackened, dying branches, and infuses them with his glowing green magic.

“He’s giving us a chance,” says Sylvie, watching as Loki disappears into a rift in time. Loki literally holds the timelines together, replacing the Temporal Loom with Yggdrasil, the World Tree of Norse mythology. It’s there that Loki — the God of Stories — ascends to the throne and fulfills his glorious purpose: protecting time For All Time. Always.

Will There Be Loki Season 3?

The first season of Loki ended with a post-credits scene confirming that “Loki will return in season 2.” But the Loki season 2 finale doesn’t have an end credits scene, so the question is: will there be a Loki season 3?

“We are certainly thinking about how we can continue to tell TVA andLoki base stories,” series co-executive producer Kevin Wright told ComicBook. “What I would say is,season one and season two were always conceived as two chapters of thesame book. We want to close this book.” Wright added: “I think there’s a lot morebooks on the shelf, though.”

The Loki season 2 ending suggests that the God of Mischief the God of Stories is destined to return in Avengers: Secret Wars, as he’s — quite literally — at the center of the multiverse. While a third season of Loki hasn’t been announced yet, Marvel Studios will conclude The Multiverse Saga with the two-part Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (scheduled for May 1st, 2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (May 7th, 2027).

All episodes of Loki are now streaming on Disney+.

The SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike is nearing its end, culminating months of change in the film and television industry. The conclusion of the strike has meant that actors can now promote their projects made for studios under the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television producers — and it looks like two major starts are already on the docket to do so. On Thursday, it was confirmed that Marvel Cinematic Universe stars Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson will be appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday, November 10th.

The joint interview will allow the two fan-favorite actors to promote their recently-released MCU projects, with Hiddleston’s Loki Season 2 airing its finale on Thursday, and Larson’s The Marvels arriving in theaters this weekend. Other guests on the The Tonight Show episode will include Eric Idle and musical guests Rick Ross and Meek Mill.

What Is The Marvels About?

In The Marvels, which arrives in theaters on November 10th, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan, Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris). Together, this unlikely trio must team-up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as “The Marvels.” The Marvels will also see the franchise returns of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Saagar Shaikh as Aamir Khan, Zenobia Shroff as Muneeba Khan, and Mohan Kapur as Yusuf Khan. New cast members include Zawe Ashton, Park Seo-joon, and Shamier Anderson. Produced by Marvel Studios, The Marvels is directed by Nia DaCosta with a script from DaCosta, Megan McDonnell, and Elissa Karasik.

What Is Loki Season 2 About?

The penultimate episode of Loki’s second season, “Science/Fiction,” was released this week and it’s got Marvel fans talking about some major theories. The episode saw Loki (Tom Hiddleston) travel across different timelines to meet his friends in their true times and places. After he reunited everyone in order to save the TVA, many fans think Loki could become the new “He Who Remains” at the end of time while others believe we are witnessing the original formation of the TVA. In the comics, Loki is currently the God of Stories, which could be a clue to the character’s MCU endgame. There have been some interesting hints on social media, including the official account for Thor sharing a clip from Thor: The Dark World. Is Marvel Studios teasing that Loki is about to get his “throne?”

“All this because Loki desires a throne,” Odin (Anthony Hopkins) says in the clip. “It is my birthright,” Loki shouts back. The post was simply captioned with a clock emoji, which has fans reeling in the comments. You can check out the post below:

The penultimate episode of Loki‘s second season, “Science/Fiction,” was released on Disney+ last night and saw Loki (Tom Hiddleston) travel across different timelines to meet his friends in their true time and place. It was revealed in the first season that everyone who worked for the TVA was a variant, and now we finally know their stories. Fans were especially excited to learn that Mobius (Owen Wilson) was a jet ski salesman named Don with two sons living in Ohio. It was also revealed that Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku) was a doctor named Dr. Willis who was living in New York City in 2012. In honor of these revelations, Marvel Studios has released new posters that showcase Wilson and Mosaku’s characters.

“Dedicated workers on any timeline. Episode 5 of Loki Season 2 is now streaming on @DisneyPlus,” Marvel shared on Instagram. You can check out the posters below:

Loki Producer Addresses Jet Ski Moment:

Loki producer Kevin Wright recently spoke with Marvel.com about the decision to let Mobius ride a jet ski, which is something fans have been waiting for since the first season.

“We knew in the script [the jet ski] was going to be something funny,” Wright told the website. “There was always joke ideas of tags for the end of Season 1 or other things. We knew eventually we were going to have to pay it off, but it was just kind of waiting for the right moment so that it would be its most fulfilling.”

“We wanted to find a way to do it in an unexpected way,” Wright continued. “I mean, there’s been so much anticipation, and I think we could have just plopped him on a jet ski riding around a lake, and people would have been just as happy. Owen said something really funny, which was he compared it a little bit to an old TV romance — will they, won’t they? He’s like, well, the second you do it, the thing kind of is done. So he’s like, if we’re going to do it now, it’s got to be really fun and really unexpected.”

LOKI, Season 2

One of the many surprising and entertaining elements of Loki has been its musical score. Episode 3 of the Disney+ Original Series kicked things off with a remix of the Marvel Studios theme music, to fit in with the episode’s 1893 timeline. Loki has carved out a nice niche in Marvel’s TV catalog, as it continues to push the boundaries of the multiverse with Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief making for a fine lead character. As for the creatives behind the camera, one got to talk about how they went about crafting the music behind Loki.

ComicBook.com spoke to Loki composer Natalie Holt, who was asked what it was like to play with Loki‘s musical score. “I did the umpire music with the Loki theme and played in that scene, and Episode 3 the music was kinda honky tonky, and it started with that string quartet at the beginning… it’s like such a different sound palette,” Holt said. “And then as we worked on the show I had the idea of the score playing and a piano in the background of the He Who Remains speech that he does with the machine that he’s built.”

She then discussed how she got to remix the iconic Marvel theme music. “And then a really late honor, ‘How about we do a new version of the Marvel logo with a piano?’ And everyone was like, ‘Try it.’ And it stuck.” She then praised Peter Nichols, who worked on the score as well on Loki Seasons 1 and 2. You can watch Natalie Holt’s interview in the player above.

Loki Season 2 premiered with lower ratings than Season 1

According to the latest streaming data from Nielsen, Loki‘s second season premiere saw a significant drop from the series premiere back in 2021. The company’s new numbers reveal that the Loki Season 2 premiere from October 5th rounded up 446 million minutes of viewing time over its first three days on Disney+. The first season premiere pulled in roughly 731 million minutes of viewing time, based on Nielsen’s metrics. That’s a 39% drop from Season 1 to Season 2.

There are obviously multiple things potentially attributing to that drop, including the fact that the first season of Loki was one of the first MCU projects to be released after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. 2023 has also seen a couple of poorly reviewed projects from Marvel Studios, including Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and the Secret Invasion series, which may have caused less interest in the overall franchise.

Marvel Studios fan-favorite Tom Hiddleston stars in Loki Season 2, returning as the titular God of Mischief for another round of time-traveling hijinx on Disney+ on October 6th.

Loki‘s latest episode revealed O.B.’s workspace on his original timeline. In the TVA, Ke Huy Quan’s character is the designer of every single gadget they use. Marvel.com caught up with production designer Kasra Farahani to talk about some of the engineer’s design influences. Viewers got to see A.D. Doug’s humble beginnings as a professor and science fiction author. However, he also tinkers on the side, in a room that looks strikingly similar to the Research and Development room in the TVA. That’s not on accident according to the production designer.

“It occurred to me that this could be an opportunity for a really fun gag,” Farahani explained. “In my mind, when O.B. was brought from the timeline, he’d spent so much time in his real-world workspace, that however much brain wiping was done, the architecture of this space was just so deeply ingrained in the fiber of his mind. When he redesigned R&A in the TVA, he unwittingly recreated that space.”

loki-ob-tva-workshop.jpg

“I think that was something throughout the episode we were talking about you wanted it to just feel like you’re home with these characters, but truly uncanny in the true sense of the word,” Executive Producer Kevin Wright chimed-in. “It’s home-like, and that is what makes it feel familiar, but also potentially really odd. A lot of that was trying to capture, again— and this was a through line in Season 1, bringing it through here— a little bit of that Wizard of Oz feel of, its home, but it’s not. It’s filled with familiar faces, but they’re not the people that you know.”

Loki Addresses Mobius’ Past Too

During Episode 5, Loki decided to give us extended information about all the different variants that we’ve followed through the TVA. Producer Kevin Wright spoke to Marvel.com about Mobius’s life back on the timeline. Episode 5 finally delivered the jet ski action that fans have been craving. The viewers have been asking for Owen Wilson’s character to get to ride a personal watercraft since Loki Season 1. On Wednesday evening, they finally got their wish. The executive seems ecstatic about it too.

“We knew in the script [the jet ski] was going to be something funny,” Wright revealed. “There was always joke ideas of tags for the end of Season 1 or other things. We knew eventually we were going to have to pay it off, but it was just kind of waiting for the right moment so that it would be its most fulfilling.”

“We wanted to find a way to do it in an unexpected way,” he added. “I mean, there’s been so much anticipation, and I think we could have just plopped him on a jet ski riding around a lake, and people would have been just as happy. We’re nearly through with Loki‘s sophomore season, which has been taking the Marvel Cinematic Universe on quite a journey. The show has not only tried to expand upon the mythos of Loki (Tom Hiddleston), but of the Time Variance Authority. That included one major reveal about how the TVA itself works — the Fail-Safe Protocol, which made a deadly impact across the episode. So, what exactly is the TVA’s Fail-Safe Protocol? Spoilers for Season 2, Episode 5 of Loki below! Only look if you want to know!

The major thread of the episode involved Loki dealing with the fallout of the Temporal Loom’s explosion, which scattered his friends across time and space and made his timeslipping significantly worse. Early on in the episode, we saw one side-effect of that explosion — the Fail-Safe Protocol had been automatically activated by the TVA, causing everything in the facility to slowly spin out into nothingness. While this wasn’t the first time we’ve seen this “spaghetting”, as Victor Timely (Jonathan Majors) died in a similar fashion in Episode 4, we began to see its impact across the episode. Branched timelines, and the people within them, began to be erased — including the timeline where Sylvie (Sophia di Martino) had found a happy life at McDonald’s, and later the timeline where O.B. (Ke Huy Quan) hosted the team at his base of operations. While Loki is not seemingly able to stop the spaghetting altogether, he can now better control his timeslipping and go back to before the protocol was initiated.

Will Loki Get a Season 3?

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Loki producer Kevin Wright addressed the possibility of whether or not the show could end up getting a third season — and teased that either way, the narrative of the show will continue in the larger franchise.

“We are certainly thinking about how we can continue to tell TVA and Loki-based stories,” Wright revealed. “What I would say is season one and season two were always conceived as two chapters of the same book. We want to close this book and I think there’s a lot more books on the shelf, though.”

The Loki we’re seeing right now on Disney+ is very different from the one that first appeared as a dastardly villain in Phase One of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tom Hiddleston’s beloved character is trying to rewrite the story on his self-titled TV series, but his early days in the franchise were spent working for Thanos, attacking the Avengers, and trying to harness the power of the Infinity Stones. Thursday’s penultimate episode of dropped a reference to that period in the God of Mischief’s existence, including a big nod to Marvel’s The Avengers and the Battle of New York.

WARNING: This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for the latest episode of Loki! Continue reading at your own risk…

After the big reset at the end of last week’s episode of , the penultimate episode began with the God of Mischief hopping through time and across timelines, appearing in times where all of his TVA friends had been scattered. We got to see where on the timelines all of the variants came from, and Hunter B-15’s location immediately stole the attention of longtime Marvel fans.

On one of the branched timelines, B-15 could be found in New York City in the year 2012. Of course, that was the exact place and year Loki invaded Earth with the Mind Stone.

B-15 was a doctor, working with a child who had broken her arm. There was no indication that the Battle of New York had happened or was about to happen in the scene, especially since she didn’t recognize Loki when he visited for the first time. Considering it was a branched timeline, rather than the Sacred Timeline, there may not have ever been a Battle of New York where B-15 was from.

Loki Season 2 Finale

Over the last two weeks, Loki has certainly set itself up for an unbelievable finale. Natalie Holt, the show’s composer, recently spoke to ComicBook.com and said she “can’t wait” for everyone to see how Season 2 comes to a close.

“I can’t wait for people to see Episode 6,” Holt told us recently. “And, for me, it was the most, just satisfying thing to write. Yeah, I just felt, I feel kind of like so emotionally tied up with the character. Because I’ve been working on th show for such a long time now. What it feels like. And, you know, what happens to Loki, I feel like I go on this journey with him every time I worked on a season. So, I just feel… Yeah, it was sort of sad to say goodbye and I didn’t want to stop working on it. Yeah, it feels… I can’t…. Yeah. All I can say is I can’t wait for people to see it.”

Marvel Studios fan-favorite Tom Hiddleston stars in Loki Season 2, returning as the titular God of Mischief for another round of time-traveling hijinx on Disney+ on October 6th. When Loki season 2 started on Disney+, the title character already had a major problem, he was time-slipping. Having become unstuck from his present timeline in the first episode, and partially as a result of so many timeline branches being woven into the Sacred Timeline, Loki was slipping between past and present in a violent fashion that looked like it was painful. After the jaw-dropping events of Loki season 2 episode 4 though, the Marvel series brought back the time-slipping concept and even built on it in a big way, expanding Loki’s powerset and potentially making him one of the MCU’s most powerful characters

Loki season 2 episode 5 ending explained:

Loki season 2’s latest episode on Disney+ begins from the events of last week’s episode, but this time Loki is once again time-slipping. To make things a little wilder he’s not just showing up at the TVA, though he does begin his journey there. Loki’s time-slipping in the new episode sends him across branched timelines where he encounters many of his cohorts and collaborators in the TVA, revealing what their lives were like before they joined the TVA, including: Casey is a prisoner escaping from Alcatraz in 1961, Hunter B-15 is a doctor living in New York in 2012, OB is a failed science-fiction author in California in the 1990s, and Mobius is a jet-ski salesman in Cleveland in the present day.

After encountering OB and explaining everything to him, including how random time-slipping has been for him, Ke Huy Quan’s science-obsessed brain offers a revelation about it: Loki’s time-slipping isn’t random, it’s been pushing him around to all the people that he’s looking for. Loki just needs to learn to control his time-slipping, especially since it’s getting better at moving not only through time, but also space, essentially making Loki a walking TemPad. Knowing the threat that lingers though is what is driving Loki, and that is what will drive him to control his time-slipping

Guess what? At the end of this episode of Loki, that’s exactly what happens. As the timeline that Loki and all of his TVA pals are sitting in begins to spaghettify, he screams out in anguish and manages to take control of the time-slipping for the first time.

“It’s not about where, when, or why, it’s about who,” Loki says to his friends.

He adds, “I can rewrite the story,” taking control of his power and slipping back in time exactly to the moment in season 2 episode 4 right before Victor Timely walks out of the TVA and perishes.

With this newfound ability, Loki is clearly one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most powerful characters. Not only can he go back in time and change things, he seemingly has no limit to how far back he can go and what he can do. This will no doubt play a big part in the Loki season 2 finale which premieres next week, but what’s unclear is how this will position Loki in the larger MCU. Marvel Studios has often shied away from characters that they’ve made a little TOO powerful, so the potential for Loki to get sidelined until a much later appearance seems likely.

Marvel Studios fan-favorite Tom Hiddleston stars in Loki Season 2, returning as the titular God of Mischief for another round of time-traveling hijinx on Disney+.

The fourth episode of Loki Season 2 flipped the script on the entire series, essentially destroying the TVA and leaving all of the show’s major characters scattered throughout the various timelines. In this week’s penultimate episode of the season, fans got to see where each of those characters “belonged” on the various timelines. That includes Mobius, the fan-favorite character played by Owen Wilson. There have always been theories about where he originally came from and what sort of life he had outside of the TVA, and now we have a heartbreaking answer. WARNING: This article contain MAJOR SPOILERS for the latest episode of Loki! Continue reading at your own risk…

Loki, able to hop through space and time, spends the episode tracking down each of his TVA friends on their own timelines. Mobius, as many fans hoped and suspected, is found selling jet-skis. It’s also revealed that this version of the character is a single dad with two young sons at home that he takes care of. This is where the heartbreaking element of Mobius’ story comes in.

In order to help Loki save the TVA and stop the timelines from collapsing, he has to leave his sons behind. It’s unclear if this is the exact same scenario that the original Mobius faced when he was taken into the TVA, or if this is perhaps the exact same variant of the character and we’re witnessing an even bigger time loop.

Loki tells Mobius that he can come back to visit his sons at any point, bringing him back to that exact moment in time, but there’s no telling if that ever actually happens. And if this is truly the only version of Mobius involved with the TVA, would reuniting with his sons mean he would never see his friend Loki again?

LOKI, Season 2

Loki remains one of the most critically acclaimed TV projects from Marvel Studios to-date, and it’s still the only television project from the studio to return for a second season. There’s no denying the Tom Hiddleston-starring series is immensely popular, but the streaming numbers for the new season haven’t quite stood up to the first.

Loki Season 2 Final Episodes

Loki delivered a shocking twist at the end of the fourth episode of Season 2, essentially ending the TVA as we all knew it and sending fans into the great unknown for the last two episodes of the season. According to series composer Natalie Holt, those final two episodes are a sight to behold.

“I can’t wait for people to see Episode 6,” Holt told ComicBook.com in a recent interview. “And, for me, it was the most, just satisfying thing to write. LOKI, Season 2

With so many interesting shots and scenes in the second season of Loki, it’s interesting to find out which of those are the most challenging to create. Tom Hiddleston is back as the God of Mischief, except he’s not causing much mischief and chaos this time around. Instead, he’s racing back to the Time Variance Authority, aka the TVA, to warn them about He Who Remains, who is a variant of Kang the Conqueror. The actions of Loki and Sylvie in the Loki Season 1 finale have major repercussions for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, opening it up to the Multiverse Saga. Which shot was the most challenging to shoot in Loki‘s first four episodes? We find that out from someone behind the scenes.

ComicBook.com spoke to Loki cinematographer Isaac Bauman, who spoke about the show’s most challenging shot that came in its first four episodes. It’s interesting to note the shot is tied to both the season premiere and the fourth episode, which had Loki visiting the TVA in the future.

Loki’s most challenging shot in season 2 revealed

“I think that there was… Most challenging single shot? In the first episode, there’s a shot where Loki’s running around a future TVA that’s in some sort of distress that we actually revisit in the fourth episode,” cinematographer Isaac Bauman revealed. “We kind of see what was going on there because of this time loop thing. There’s a shot that turns from chasing Loki handheld through a great distance actually in the chrono monitor set into seamlessly into a dolly zoom shot. So we had to go from it feeling like a camera operator was running around, tagging all these different things, and then suddenly we’re in, without cutting, we’re in a super precisely controlled shot that involves a zoom, which is an enormous piece of equipment you could never hand hold. And so we had to work with the VFX department to blend two different shots together. And what you see is at a certain point, there’s a wipe of the camera and it wipes back and it’s taken over by the dolly zoom, but it still appears to be handheld for quite a while.”

He continued: “So you think you’re still in handheld mode, but really it’s just VFX handheld and then all of a sudden there’s a fade put where the VFX handheld plugin basically dissolves and the frame just kind of settles. And it has a very… I’ve never seen that before. I’ve never seen a handheld shot turn, not only to not a handheld shot, but this really controlled dolly zoom pullback and it actually brings chills to me to see how effective it is. It’s like you’re pulling the rug out front under the audience. It’s like we thought we were handheld and then, ooh, it’s getting really scary now. And I think that was a challenge to plan and figure out and execute, and that’s probably the best example.”

Bauman also teased the season’s final shot. “We shot the climactic sequence of the season, at least a major piece of it, the significant piece, on a single day, on a sound stage very near the end of our shoot,” Bauman reflected. “I think it was probably the most meaningful day of the whole production because you could feel just the weight of this story, Loki’s story, which has gone on for so long, closing this chapter at least.”

Loki Season 1 left viewers with one of Marvel Studios’s biggest cliffhangers to date. The six-episode story culminated with Tom Hiddleston’s titular trickster and Sophia Di Martino’s variant confronting Jonathan Majors’s He Who Remains beyond The Void. He Who Remains presented Loki and Sylvie with two options: allow the Sacred Timeline to continue flowing as normal, or kill him and send it spiraling into chaos. Sylvie chose the latter, resulting in Loki returning to a Time Variance Authority now run by He Who Remains’s most sinister variant, Kang the Conqueror. A feverish Loki warns Owen Wilson’s Mobius that this “terrifying” man is coming, leaving Mobius perplexed, as he has zero memory of Loki’s existence.

With a cliffhanger that substantial in Season 1 and Kang’s story guaranteed to continue until at least Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, there is some expectancy that Loki Season 2 will once again leave fans with more questions than answers.

Loki Cinematographer Teases Season 2’s Final Shot

LOKI-SEASON-2-FINALE-SHOT-ISAAC-BAUMAN

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Loki Season 2 cinematographer Isaac Bauman gave his spoiler-free reflection on filming this season’s final shot.

Loki has been a staple of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since he debuted in Thor (2011). From taking over Odin’s throne to standing toe-to-toe with Thanos, the god of mischief has had no shortage of marquee moments, and Bauman believes the final shot of Season 2 lives up to his gold standard.

“It felt like once we’re finished shooting this sequence, we as a crew, as creatives, we have now contributed a very significant chapter in the story of one of the greatest characters of our generation,” Bauman continued. “It actually felt that way on set, which is incredible.”

Bauman added that he “100 percent agrees” with Loki Season 2 executive producer Kevin Wright that the final two episodes are the best of the season.

Loki Season 2’s next episode airs this Wednesday, November 1st on Disney+ at 9 PM ET.
