Cambridge Science Festival ran from October 3-9, 2022, and featured CSF’s customary mix of magic and mayhem. The Festival Zone popped-up in the Kendall/MIT Open Space, each day offering a different selection of themed booths, activities and events.
Thursday’s SCIENCE + CLIMATE saw a full program of lectures, panel discussions and events in the MIT Museum; on Friday, SCIENCE + FOOD brought scent-tasting, flavor-clouds and culinary innovation; and on Saturday, SCIENCE + FASHION saw CSF team up with Boston Fashion Week for a full day of future-fashion runway shows, interviews, experiential exhibitions and more.
The Festival’s headline event, running nightly from Thursday – Sunday, was BOREALIS – a large-scale light and sound installation by Swiss artist Dan Acher. Recreating the Northern Lights in the sky above the Kendall/MIT Open Space, Acher’s celebrated work uses particle clouds and bespoke laser technology to evoke this awe-inspiring natural phenomenon right in the heart of the city.
On Sunday, CSF’s beloved CARNIVAL returned as an outdoor event that took over the entire Kendall/MIT Open Space. More than 10,000 visitors enjoyed over 100 activity booths, performances, and art installations at what is always an uproarious afternoon of science and innovation-themed family fun.
