Destitute Men Flock To Daytime Shelter Homeless and destitute men flocked to the 71st Regiment Armory, Park Ave. and 34th St., Manhattan, yesterday on the opening day of the city's daytime shelter for unemployed. More than 1,000 men came to the armory, but they paid little attention to the recreation activities offered and preferred to read or darn clothing. Two new shelters will be opened today, the 14th Regiment Armory at 1402 8th Ave. and the 369th Regiment Armory at 142d St. and 5th Ave., Manhattan. The same recreation will be offered at both of the new places, and a lunch will be served at all three armories. No sleeping accommodations will be offered, however, as the men are supposed to go to the municipal or private lodging houses for a bed and a breakfast.
