It seems that every year attendees and non-attendees alike get all sorts of excited about the annual Apple Design Awards at the World Wide Developer Conference. The 2006 edition of the award ceremony took place last night at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. For those of you who don't know anything about the Awards here's a snippet straight from the horses' mouth:
The Apple Design Awards is an annual contest, sponsored by Apple, to recognize technical excellence and outstanding achievement on Mac OS X. Winning developers receive valuable prizes, and their winning entries are showcased at WWDC 2006, Macworld 2007, and on the Apple website.
There were winners and kind-of-sort-of winners alike in a variety of categories ranging from best developer tool to best OS X dashboard widget. The odd thing is that this year I have only ever heard of five of the sixteen applications celebrated (odd to me at least):
- Best Mac OS X Developer Tool:
Runner-Up:F-Script
Winner: TextMate - Best Use of Mac OS X Graphics:
Runner-Up: Unity
Winner: modo - Best Mac OS X Dashboard Widget:
Runner-Up: WeatherBug Local Weather Widget
Winner: iClip lite 2.0 - Best Mac OS X Automator Workflow:
Runner-Up: Lecture Recording Workflow
Winner: Build Real Estate Catalog/Ultimate Productivity Pack - Best Mac OS X User Experience:

Runner-Up: WingNuts 2
Winner: The Sims 2 - Best Mac OS X Scientific Computing Solution:
Runner-Up: FuzzMeasure Pro

Notable absentees from the list this year are perennial powerhouse Panic and the application Apple seemed to have a huge crush on: Yojimbo. Congratulations go to everyone that was involved this year.
