Lang."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2022,8,29]]},"abstract":"In teaching students to program with compositions of higher-order \n functions, we have encountered a sharp distinction in the difficulty \n of problems as perceived by students. This distinction especially \n matters as growing numbers of programmers learn about functional \n programming for data processing. We have made initial progress on \n identifying this distinction, which appears counter-intuitive to \n some.
