It is a possibility that James Blake was the son of father James Blake and mother Eliz Blake who had him baptised on 12 April 1722 at St Mary, Rotherhithe, Southwark, Surrey, England[1].
Marriage and family
Marriage: James Blake & Catherine Harmitage, 15 Oct 1752, Saint George Mayfair, Westminster, London, England[2][3][4]
They would have 5 sons and 1 daughter (Gilchrist, p.56), the first a son James (1753- ), who was apprenticed on 19 October 1768, in the 8th year of the reign of their Sovereign Lord George the Third of Great Britain, to Gideon Boitoult Citizen being a noorbook(?) maker of London; Jame's father James being an Haberdasher of Carnaby Market, Middlesex[5]. James Jnr. would take over his father's business when the latter died, and had a spiritual and visionary side, but much less obvious than their 3rd born, also a son, William Blake (1757-1827), poet, painter, engraver and visionary. Their 6th and only daughter was named Catherine Elizabeth Blake (1764- ), suggesting that her Grandmother on the paternal side was Eliz Blake.
Occupation
It also seems very likely that the James Blake in the 'UK, Register of Duties Paid for Apprentices' Indentures, 1710-1811', who was a Master Draper, on 8 December 1753, with apprentice Thos Bullock, (see Sources: Apprentices) as he was a "moderately prosperous hosier of some twenty years' standing" residing at 28 Broad Street in London Gilchrist, Alexander, 1863, p.5).
