This page describes the criteria used by WDQS to determine in what subgraph a given entity belongs to.
Definition
[edit]- An entity is part of the scholarly graph if it declares either:
- a non-deprecated publication type of scholarly work (P13046) statement
- a direct[1] and non-deprecated statement instance of (P31) with a value defined in #Scholarly Articles.
- An entity is part of the main graph if it is not considered a scholarly article.
Examples
[edit]- If an entity declares a single instance of (P31) with scholarly article (Q13442814) it is part of the scholarly graph
- If an entity declares one or more publication type of scholarly work (P13046) it is part of the scholarly graph (even if none of its instance of (P31) is an instance of #Scholarly Articles).
- If all instance of (P31) statements declared by an entity are not part of #Scholarly Articles it is part of the main graph
- If an entity declares multiple instance of (P31) with one of them part of #Scholarly Articles it is part of the scholarly graph
- If an entity declared a instance of (P31) that is a subclass of (P279) of #Scholarly Articles it is not necessarily part of the scholarly graph (it is only if one its P31 statement is a direct link to #Scholarly Articles)
- If an entity does not declare any instance of (P31) it is part of the main graph
- A Wikibase lexeme (Q51885771) is part of the main graph
- A Wikidata property (Q18616576) is part of the main graph
Known Issues
[edit]Entities having multiple instance of (P31) defined may pose some challenges[2]. Please see Wikidata:Property proposal/publication type of scholarly article which hopefully might help to make these rules clearer in the future.
Changes to the rules
[edit]The rules being defined in the WDQS software if a change is required it must be requested and discussed via Wikidata:Report_a_technical_problem/WDQS_and_Search.
Past changes:
- 2024, November 18: The rules are adapted to use publication type of scholarly work (P13046)
