Summer-glau.net Summer GlauSummer Glau - About her career - Summer-glau.net InterviewMonday 16 April 2007, by Webmaster I’ve had a little check on the site’s log and found out that 60% of the visitors come from the USA, and the other 40% from over 100 countries all over the world. What does it feel like to know that you have fans in all these countries??? Every time I receive a letter from anyone, I am surprised and honored, but knowing that people enjoy my work in countries I have never seen, is truly amazing. Talking about places, lots of people speculate on your origins. Glau appears to be the German word for "glow" which sounds very fitting to some. Other bet on some Asian or Hispanic ancestors, so what’s really in your makeup? Actually, my last name does mean “glow” as it is German. My ancestry is Scotch- Irish and German. Ok, let’s go back in time a little: before being an actress, you were a ballerina, which is a very exigent art. What motivated you to choose dancing? You know, I feel like dancing chose me. I loved it from my very first class. I was a very shy girl, but I love the way dancers express their feelings through movement instead of with words. I would have enjoyed making silent films. Any other artistic ability that you have? Drawing, singing??? So your next question is funny...I really don’t like to sing! I feel shaky and terrified. You also appeared ‘on stage’ a couple time doing musical such as “Paint Your Wagon”. Would you like to go back to that one day, maybe try Broadway? One day, I would very much like to be in a play. It would be so challenging because I am quiet as an actress. It would be a stretch for me to attempt stage acting, although when I was a dancer people always said I was more of an actress than a technician. I’ve read somewhere that you’ve been in a few commercial before getting into acting. Many fans have searched the web to find out more, but were left empty handed. Any hints that you can give us? No. Ha Ha Ever since you’re an actress you’ve tried many genres: comedy, horror, science-fiction, drama. So now that you’ve almost tried it all, which one has your preference? Anything with Joss! You know I came to act because I wanted to do lovely period dramas. Very Jane Austen. But I guess I have become more of an action girl. I have no complaints! Is there something else that you would like to try, perhaps something that has to do with dancing? I daydream about being a chef...or a cowgirl. We’ve seen you drive in Mammoth, in The 4400 and Crystal has just bought a new car in one of the latest episode of The Unit. What about you Summer, what are you driving (brand, model, colour)? I have a dark red Mini Cooper named Luca. Speaking of Crystal - a character I really like - you’ve appeared in six episodes so far and I’ve read in a recent interview that you’re supposed to do one more. How was that new experience to you? Was it easy to be part of an already-established cast? I very much enjoy playing such a real person. The cast was so much fun! And my real boyfriend is Daniel Wisler who played Jeremy, (my boyfriend) on The Unit. Daniel Wisler and Summer Glau on ’The Unit’ By the way, how did you get cast for the role? Have you gone through the whole audition process? Actually, Sean Ryan knew my work from Firefly and called Joss to ask if I was good to work with. Joss told him “Well, if you don’t mind an illiterate drug-addict.” (really not true) You’ve done one hell of a sexy dancing scene in episode 9 of season 2, but in the real life what kind of music do you listen to? Any particular artist or band that you really like? You, know, mostly country, tango, flamenco, fado, and old blues and torch songs. A little about The Initiation of Sarah now. It was released last year, and the reaction of people to it and to your performance was very good. How was it for you to immerge yourself in this totally different kind of movie? What a blast! This is the only show I have done with a bunch of girls my own age. We laughed and laughed! Mika Boorem and Summer Glau: twin sisters in ’The Initiation of Sarah’You had already worked with Mika on Sleepover, was it nice to collaborate with her again? Mika and I were like real sisters. You have two sisters; did you use some of your personal experience to help creating your character of Lindsay? Yes, absolutely! My sisters are my best friends. They got a kick out of Initiation of Sarah. I know many people who haven’t seen “The Initiation of Sarah” or “Mammoth” yet and are hoping for them to be released in DVD, will our prayers be answered? I would love to know, but I have no idea. We’ve recently learned that you will be a part of Fox’s Terminator spin-off series “The Sarah Connor Chronicles”. After many suppositions on who you’ll play, we finally learnt that you’ll be the new ‘good’ Terminator: Cameron. What can you tell us about her? Well, I’m not really supposed to talk about it, but I can say that I had an amazing time shooting it and I am really proud to be part of it. Will there be some fight scenes? Awesome! Still talking of the future, your 4400 character, Tess Doerner, has had a nice development in the last season. What about the upcoming fourth, can we hope to see her again??? Yes, I have been back. Anything else we can look forward to? More 4400! And Sarah Connor in the fall. And finally the question that all your male fans have begged me to ask countless times: is your heart still free, and if yes, how can it be won over? Well!!! Ask Daniel Wisler how to win my heart! 2 Forum messages |
