"It's just so sad. I love Southwest," said Deborah Moncrief, a passenger.
Moncrief said she has been flying Southwest all 17 years that it has been in Jackson. She’s been flying back and forth from her home in Houston to see family in Mississippi.
"Yes I am brokenhearted about Southwest closing in Jackson. Why? Because my family is here and I'm always flying in from Houston and it's wonderful. It's breaking my heart," she said.
Southwest workers said the last flight was a tough message to announce.
“I’m not going to talk anymore. It’s too sad. It’s too sad,” an employee said.
The Jackson Airport Authority is looking ahead and members said they are aggressively looking for an airline to fill the space.
“Our passengers have enjoyed the low fares for the last 17 years and of course that’s going away, but we’re searching for a new carrier so that’s our goal,” said Jean Moore of the Jackson Airport Authority.
United Airlines is adding flights and Delta officials said they are bringing bigger planes in and out of the city.
Some passengers said they are worried what the impact will be.
“It’s the cheapest flights. All the other airlines are way more expensive than Southwest,” one passenger said.
“I’ve looked at flights on other airliners from Houston to Jackson, and none of the times are good,” another customer said.
