The group will promote and design a Publish-Subscribe pattern and protocol for the web. The current de-facto protocol for it, PubSubHubbub is already widely used but has a couple issues that we need to address. We hope this protocol can be used in wide range of applications, from social web, to e-commerce or even search engines.
Note: Community Groups are proposed and run by the community. Although W3C hosts these conversations, the groups do not necessarily represent the views of the W3C Membership or staff.
PubSubHubbub needs to evolve and be less coupled with RSS/Atom feeds (read support arbitrary content), as well as allow for private (limited distribution) resources.
Here are the comments I wrote about that and how to fix both issues. I’d really love to have your comments on the latest version of the spec.
Can we organize an in-person meeting of this community group at or near FOSDEM 2012? I’ve started a wiki page for a February 2012 meeting to discuss.
