The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts seeks a Deputy Director who will be responsible for planning and implementing federal and state grant programs and projects including investment, capacity building, and cultivation of arts and cultural resources for the state.

  • Banff Center Residency
    The Banff Center is a post-secondary institution that specializes in Indigenous leadership, artistic research, project development, and mountain culture. The Center offers various residencies in different disciplines and is located in Banff, Alberta, Canada.
  • Berkshire Artist Residency Program
    This program offers three residency sites for artists to create new work, reflect on artistic visions, and engage with fellow artists. Preference is given to Berkshire County Residents. 
  • The Factory Residency 
    The Factory Residency is located in Manchester, New Hampshire. The program is geared towards new and emerging amateur artists from around the world. The 12-week program allows creatives to explore, define, and polish their working portfolio
  • The Fine Arts Work Center Fellowship 
    One of the leading artist residency programs in the world, the FAWC offers seven-month residencies. Writing fellows are given the opportunity to do a public reading and Visual Arts fellows are given the chance to display a solo exhibition. 
  • Headlands Artist in Residence
    The Residency program at the Headlands Center for the Arts awards approximately 50 fully sponsored residencies per year. Residencies are 4 to 10 weeks and are available to local, national and international artists. Artists of all career stages and disciplines are welcomed to apply and join the community.
  • Manship Artist Residency and Studios
    Located in Cape Ann, Massachusetts, the Manship Artist Residency envisions a world transformed by the power of nature and art. The program connects Cape Ann’s cultural heritage with a new group of artists, innovators, and creatives that can use the space and help uplift the community. 
  • Millay Arts Residency 
    Millay Arts invites artists for two-week to one month long residencies at Edna St. Vincent Millay’s historic estate. The residency allows artists to dive deeper into their creative process and work on projects.
  • The Rocky Neck Art Colony
    One of the oldest continuously operating art colonies in the United States. 
  • Skowhegan Residency 
    This 9-week program in Maine gives artists the opportunity to live in a community of peers and participate in workshops, studio visits, performances, lectures, and more. The residency is based on a transversal open structure that encourages collaboration between artists. Studios, technical facilities, and workshops are all located on the campus and available to artists.
  • Stochastic Labs Residency
    Residencies at the Stochastic Labs are fully sponsored and available to engineers, artists, scientists, and entrepreneurs from around the world. Residents become a part of the creative community and can use workshops, co-working spaces, and the shop.
  • Yaddo Residency
    A nonprofit retreat for artists working in choreography, film, literature, music composition, performance art, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and video.

  • Mass Cultural Council
    The Massachusetts Cultural Council offers grants for Creative Individuals, Feasibility and Technical Assistant Grants, Cultural Sector, Operations, and more. The grants are available in differing amounts and are due in October.
  • National Endowment for the Arts 
    The National Endowment for the Arts provides a variety of grants for organizations, individuals, and programs. The Grants are awarded in differing amounts and available at various times throughout the year.
  • New England Foundation for the Arts
    The New England Foundation for the Arts offers 15+ grants to support dance, music, public art, and theater. Grants are awarded in differing amounts and are available at various times throughout the year. 

Individual Arts Foundations: 

  • American Society of Journalists and Authors 
    This grant is awarded annually to writers of diverse backgrounds and interests. The Fund was created to help professional freelance writers who are temporarily or permanently prevented from continuing their work.
  • The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts 
    The Foundation offers three types of grants: the Curatorial Research Fellowship, Exhibition Support, and Multi-year Program Grants. The Andy Warhol Foundation primarily supports visual artists in the contemporary art field. Their grants support artists by funding the arts organizations and cultural institutions that support them.
  • Awesome Foundation Grant
    This foundation is dedicated to forwarding “the interest of awesome” in the world. They give out $1000 grants every month to people with ideas, projects, and creations.
  • Biz-M-Power Grant 
    A crowdfunding matching grant program, the Biz-M-Power Grant supports small businesses in Massachusetts. The grant is intended to help with acquisition, expansion, leases of facilities or equipment, and capital needs.
  • The Blues Foundation Grant 
    The HART (Handy Artists Relief Trust), or Blues Foundation Grant, offers assistance to Blues musicians and their families. The fund provides healthcare such as medical, dental, free screenings, and more.
  • BJ Goodwin Fund (Northampton) 
    The BJ Goodwin Fund has provided artists with the support necessary to develop their talents by traveling outside of their community. The fund is intended for Western Mass/Valley residents to advance their art and feel supported by the Northampton arts community.
  • Bridge Song Fund 
    A trans- and queer- affirming emergency fund set up to support Western MA BIPOC, women, nonbinary, and genderqueer musicians. The fund is set up to help with housing, medical expenses, and sustenance in the aftermath of the pandemic. 
  • Brooks and Joan Fortune Foundation 
    The BJFF aims to provide funding for projects with specific outcomes, specifically in education, art, and outreach programs.
  • Carnegie Fund for Artists
    The Carnegie Fund for Artists is available to American Artists who have published at least one full length fiction or nonfiction work. All applicants must demonstrate need and provide relevant documentation to be considered.
  • Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant 
    The Greenshields Foundation Grant supports “young artists who are pursuing their studies or are in the early stages of their career, are working in a representational style of painting, drawing, sculpture, or printmaking, and demonstrate the determination and talent to pursue a lifetime career in their art practice”.
  • Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grant 
    The FCA Grant is the only program that offers immediate, project-based assistance to performing artists who have sudden, unanticipated opportunities to present their work to the public or incur unexpected expenses for projects that are close to completion. The FCA awards 12-21 grants per months in amounts varying from $500-$3000.
  • Fund for Investigative Journalism 
    This fund provides grants and support to independent journalists and news organizations. Their goal is to provide small amounts of money that will go a long way in fighting racism, poverty, corporate greed, and government corruption through journalism.
  • Gottlieb Emergency Fund 
    The Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Grant provides interim financial assistance to painters, printmakers, and sculptors. Grants are one-time and awarded to those struggling from unforeseen, catastrophic incidents.
  • Greater Worcester Community Foundation 
    This scholarship foundation has become the largest support for students from Worcester County. The fund helps college-bound high school students to achieve success and access the resources they need to thrive.
  • Helen Frankenthaler Foundation
    The Frankenthaler Foundation supports educational and research initiatives for contemporary painting and the academic study of modern art history. The fund also embraces higher education and opportunities for living artists, and awards millions of dollars in grant money each year.
  • Innovate Grant 
    The Innovate Grant is distributed twice each quarter in the amount of $1,800. Grants are available to visual artists and photographers. With 4 grant cycles per year, the Innovate Grant provides ample opportunities for artists to access the support they need.
  • International Arts Movement Hilary Teachout Grant 
    One time, $500 payments for artist relief after the coronavirus pandemic. The grant is in honor of Hilary Teachout, wife of theater critic Terry Teachout.
  • International Women’s Media Foundation Grant 
    The IWMF fund provides female journalists with small grants and support for crises and threats related to working in the field of journalism.
  • The Jar of Love Fund
    This microgrant, in partnership with Sotheby’s, allows artists, designers, curators, and cultural producers to continue their work. Grantees form a cohort to benefit from professional development and relationship building in between artists.
  • Leveler Peer to Peer Grants 
    Grants for the arts, production, music, nightlife, and hospitality.
  • LGBTQ Emergency Grant 
    A fund to help LGBTQ+ people who cannot pay for food, medicine, rent, and necessities because most of their income does not come from an employer. The fund is intended to help artists, performers, and tip-based workers.
  • MacDowell 
    Financial support for MacDowell Fellowship awardees.
  • Musician’s Foundation Grant 
    A fund established to help professional music performers, composers/arrangers, and educators through specific times of need.
  • Muskegon Art Museum: The Bennet Prize 
    A stipend program established to support “fine art practice of a woman painter working in figurative realism”. The prize is awarded biennially and provides $25,000 over two consecutive years.
  • Pen America U.S. Writers Aid Initiative 
    This grant is intended to assist fiction and nonfiction authors, poets, playwrights, translators, and journalists in short-term financial emergencies. All eligible participants must be professional writers based in the U.S. who can demonstrate need.
  • Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant 
    This grant enables artists to create new work, purchase materials, and pay for rent.
  • South Arts Express Grants 
    The South Arts Grant supports rural communities and distributes grants to rural organizations. The grant is an opportunity for organizations in South Arts’ nine-state region, and allows fee support for film, performing arts, literary arts, traditional arts, and visual arts.
  • Thespian Relief Fund 
    The Thespian Relief Fund offers grants for school troupe dues and grants to assist school theater programs that have been impacted by cancellation of events or loss of revenue.
  • We Need Diverse Books Emergency Fund
    This fund is available to published writers based in the United States who can demonstrate financial need. The grants are open for a range of different types of writers who have been affected by natural disasters, war, and other career-altering situations.
