Mobile voice and internet services have been recording steadily increasing revenues over the past years, totaling 168 billion forints in the last quarter of 2023. The Hungarian mobile internet market has been dominated by Magyar Telekom, with a 44-percent share in 2023. Additionally, the company was the first to launch commercial 5G services in the country. In 2023, approximately 83 percent of Hungarians were mobile internet users, with individuals born between 1980 and 1996 constituting the largest user group, recording an 89-percent penetration rate. At the same time, approximately 72 percent of Hungarians born before 1965 used mobile internet services. Furthermore, almost every fourth Hungarian spent over three hours on the internet using their smartphones in 2022. Regarding the most widely-used apps, in March 2023, the second-hand shopping app Vinted ranked first based on the number of downloads, followed by TikTok. During the same time, Google One was the leading mobile application in Hungary considering in-app revenue. When it comes to mobile game applications, Word of Wonders: Crossword was the most downloaded free mobile game in the country as of March 2023.The popularity of mobile internet usage has been constantly growing in recent years and mobile phones have become the primary connected devices in Hungary. With most of the country’s population being mobile internet users, the market will continue to grow steadily over the following years.
