The average size of employment contracts is the highest in Flanders, Belgium's Dutch-speaking region in the north, with 87.4%. In contrast, the average size of employment contracts in the French-speaking Walloon region in the south was 81.5%.

The data collected is based on the actual data of employees employed by more than 40,000 private sector employers, including both SMEs (small and medium sized enterprises) and large companies. It concerns all contracts of indefinite duration, and therefore does not include interim contracts or student jobs. The figures do not include suspension due to occupational disability of more than 1 year (so-called long-term illness).
