This statistic represents a comparison between the number of published books in Italy in 1980 and 36 years later, in 2016, broken down by genre. According to the study results, the number of published books grew considerably in the selected period across all genres: the number of fiction grew from around 1,000 titles to over 18,000, while a tenfold increase in children's and young adult literature was registered.
