Passenger number of Norwegian Air Shuttle 2010-2023
In 2023, Norwegian Air Shuttle uplifted 20.6 million passengers. This was a 16 percent increase compared to the previous year's passenger traffic. However, the number of passengers of the company still was well below pre-pandemic year's figures.
An expanding airline?
Norwegian's number of aircraft increased concurrently with the number of passengers — from 57 aircraft in 2010 to 156 aircraft in 2019. In a similar vein, the number of destinations has increased during this period, reaching more than 150 different locations worldwide via 500 routes in 2019. This was an increase of more than 20 new destinations when compared to 2016. Nevertheless, Norwegian had to cancel some of the less profitable routes and shut down several air bases in Europe and the U.S. in 2018, due to financial circumstances. Most of the company’s revenue is generated from international flights to destinations in Europe, Asia, and North America. As many other airlines, Norwegian was severely affected by the travel restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, Norwegian began to recover from this shock and increased passenger numbers and revenue.
