Between 2008 and 2019, the expenditure on defense in Italy experienced a decrease. In 2008, 15.4 billion euros were dedicated to the military budget, while in 2019 almost 14 billion euros were allotted for the defense. However, in 2020 and 2021 the expenditure increased again, reaching 15 billion euros in 2020 and 16.8 billion euros in 2021.
