The tax revenue from road transportation across India for the central government had amounted to approximately 1.2 trillion Indian rupees in fiscal year 2019. High speed diesel were the highest taxed products across the south Asian country. Despite the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax in 2017, road tax continued to be paid over and above it.
