Revenue of leading European pharmaceutical markets 2022
Germany was the leading pharmaceutical market in Europe with a total revenue of over 52 billion euros in 2022. France and Italy followed with revenues of 40.9 billion and 35.4 billion euros respectively. The top five were rounded off by Spain and Poland.

When the revenue of the German pharmacy market is broken down, it is prescription drugs that account for the majority of the revenues. Prescription medication accounted for approximately 37 billion euros of revenue, followed by pharmacy-only drugs at some 3.3 billion euros.

Over a fifteen-year period the value of pharmaceutical exports from Germany has skyrocketed. Increasing from approximately 18.8 billion euros in 2000 to some 122 billion euros in 2022. The leading destination for these exports is the United States with an export value of almost 26 billion euros, followed by Italy with a value of some 10.7 billion euros.
