This statistic represents the volume of bread consumed per person per year in selected European countries in 2013. In this year, the leading country in terms of bread consumption was Turkey with approximately 104 kilograms of bread consumed per person per year, followed by Bulgaria at 95 kilograms. Bread is the leading bakery product consumed in Europe when based on consumption volume, as well as the leading bake-off bakery product. Bread is produced industrially a majority of the time, although artisanal bakers hold a larger share of the market than for any other bakery product. Organic bakery products are also becoming increasingly important, as well as gluten-free equivalents, for the bakery category as a whole.
