Volume of commercial real estate investment in Europe 2020-2023, by country

Commercial real estate investment in Europe declined dramatically in 2023. In 2022, the total commercial real estate investment volume was 253 billion euros, which declined to around 133 billion in 2023. In 2023, the UK headed the ranking as the country with the largest value of commercial real estate investments, amounting to about 43.5 billion euros. Germany followed closely, with an investment value of 23.3 billion euros. 

Size of the commercial real estate market

The European commercial real estate market was estimated at more than nine trillion U.S. dollars in, with the UK, Germany, and France combined accounting for over half of the total market. One of the many ways to participate in the market is to invest in publicly listed companies. After the UK and Germany, Sweden had the largest market cap of listed real estate companies.

Leading commercial real estate companies

Real estate investment management firms are companies that manage real estate assets on behalf of their investors. Swiss Life Asset Managers, AXA IM - Real Assets, and The Blackstone Group were the firms with the highest value of European assets under management in 2021.
