Fiat car sales in Italy 2012-2020

It seems that Fiat is one of the most appreciated car manufacturers in Italy, with car sales rankings confirming this. Fiat car sales experienced a positive trend from 2013 to 2017; however, the Italian car brand experienced a drop in sales volume between 2018 and 2020, with 2020 recording annual sales figures of 211,000 units. Italy was the most important market for Fiat in 2019, with Brazil and France following in the ranking.

Which fuel type?

Although diesel- and petrol-fueled cars still dominate the Italian market, hybrid and electric vehicles have emerged as potential competitors for these classic fuel types. Even hydrogen-fueled vehicles have arrived on the scene and are similarly showing early signs of growth within the market. As of 2018, many saw electric cars as too expensive. To boost electric car sales, the Italian government introduced financial incentives for EV buyers in 2019.

What about the environment?

Italians do seem concerned about the environment and ongoing discussions on the impact of petrol cars are taking place. According to the data from a 2019 survey, 43 percent of the respondents reported that air pollution was one of the environmental issues that worried them the most.
