China produced around 17.62 million metric tons of diesel in October 2024. Since 2021, China has notably increased domestic diesel production, with output climbing from 12.92 million metric tons in September 2021 to 18.4 million metric tons in December 2023. However, local lockdowns in Shanghai in spring 2022 resulted in a country-wide reduction of motor fuel demand, which was reflected in the lower diesel output during the respective months.
