The workforce of not-for-profit theaters in the United States grew significantly in 2022 over the previous fiscal year, following a sharp decline with the onset of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Despite the annual increase, the total personnel of not-for-profit theaters in the U.S. remained below pre-pandemic levels, totaling around 82 thousand in 2022. That year, the artistic personnel accounted for roughly 56 percent of the total workforce.
