Global mobile app downloads 2023, by category
In 2023, VPN service and web accelerator apps generated almost four billion downloads from users worldwide across the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. Tool apps, which can span from mobile artificial intelligence applications to note apps, were the second most downloaded category with approximately 3.35 billion yearly downloads worldwide. E-commerce apps ranked third, as mobile commerce revenues were estimated to amount to over 1.7 trillion U.S. dollars in 2023.
