The earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria from February 6th to February 20th were the most fatal natural disasters in 2023, having claimed a total of 59,272 lives. This was followed – but by a wide margin – by the heatwave that struck Europe from August 13th to August 27th, with a total of 8,339 fatalities.
