In a survey on online news consumption behavior conducted in India in 2023, just under 90 percent of respondents reported that they found a news story trustworthy if it was from a credible source. The source was considered credible if it was well-known, considered unbiased, had reliable news reporters and anchors, and aligned with the news on mainstream outlets. Research-backed information and presentation also played a significant role in garnering trust in online news among Indians.
