In 2022, the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area had close to 13 million residents. People aged between 30 and 39 years were the largest age group in the region with nearly two million inhabitants. The age group with the fewest residents was the 14-15 age group, with 268 individuals. The city of Rio de Janeiro had approximately seven million inhabitants in 2021, which was equivalent to 53 percent of the population residing in the metropolitan area.
