In 2020, the year in which Discord started onboarding new users eager to communicate due to the disruptions caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic, Discord counted an estimated 100 million MAU. Discord's monthly active users were reported to grow by 50 million between 2020 and 2021, while estimates for 2022 and 2023 appear to show a slowing growth trend. Discord, which was launched in 2015, is a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) platform and social media where users can create thematic or regional-based groups, called servers.
