In 2023, the average length of sick leave taken by people in Germany due to mental health problems was almost 33 days. This was a slight decrease compared to the year before. The amount of sick leave taken by men and women was roughly the same each year.
Average duration of sick leave due to mental illness in Germany from 2006 to 2023
The figures from the current reporting year are taken from earlier reports. The DAK-Gesundheitsreporte views all people who were employed in the relevant years and a member of DAK-Gesundheit for at least one day who were entitled to sickness benefits from DAK-Gesundheit as part of their membership. The entire database includes around 2.4 million members of DAK-Gesundheit.
