In 2023, the highest number of domestic trips in Japan was recorded in August, amounting to roughly 57.98 million, followed by May at around 52.8 million trips. August is the month that contains the highest number of consecutive school holidays of the year in Japan, as well as the Obon festival, which make it easier for families to plan vacations. Meanwhile May is the month that contains Golden Week, a week with four national holidays which allows workers from many businesses to take the entire week off.
