Forecast operating results in the culture & sports industries in the Netherlands 2020

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic hit the culture, sports, and recreation industries in the Netherlands hard in 2020. In that year, cultural institutions had to close to the public for several weeks and many sports and cultural events were canceled, postponed, or took place behind closed doors. According to a study published in February 2021, roughly 56 percent of companies in these industries expected a negative operating income in 2020. The expected negative result was significantly higher in this sector over the average figures related to all non-financial business, with around 18 percent of companies expecting operating losses in 2020.
