Crude oil has been the main export item adding value to Angola's economy. In 2021, the country exported crude oil worth over 20 billion U.S. dollars, which corresponded to some 85 percent of the total value generated by exports. In 2020, the value added by oil exports accumulated to nearly 18.3 billion U.S. dollars, significantly below in comparison to previous years. The fall reflected an international decrease in crude oil prices, a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
