At the end of fiscal year 2019, the adjusted profit after taxes of UltraTech cement was around 25 billion Indian rupees. This was estimated to increase to around 53 billion rupees by fiscal year 2021. In 2018, the cement production capacity of India stood close to 460 million metric tons. The increase in cement demand in fiscal year 2019 was about 13 percent, which was the highest growth since 2010.
The high demand came from the infrastructure sector due to government's focus on metro, roads, airport and irrigation projects. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for low-cost house construction, demand from rural areas was also significant.
