Nick Blackwell and Hughie Fury win in Derby

Nick Blackwell kept his British middleweight title with a sixth-round stoppage of previously unbeaten Damon Jones in Derby.

Blackwell beat John Ryder to win the title at the end of May in something of a shock at the O2, and he followed up with an 18th career success against the Leeds fighter.

Jones, winner of his first 13 fights, was having a first crack at a Lonsdale Belt, but his neat style was overwhelmed by Blackwell, who lived up to his 'Bang Bang' nickname.

His punch power came to the fore at the end of the sixth when Blackwell connected on a booming right hand to floor Jones, with referee Victor Loughlin soon waving things off.

"I'm buzzed up," Blackwell said. "I've been working on that right hand counter in the gym and it came off.

"I knew he was trying to out-box me because of his amateur background but there was no power there so I knew he would tire if I put the pressure on him."

On the same card Hughie Fury, cousin of world title challenger Tyson, maintained his unbeaten record with a points victory over Brazil's George Arias.
