Heidelberg Laureate Meetings

Status

The call for nominations is currently closed

The call for applications to attend the 11th Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF) has now closed.

Young researchers in computer science and mathematics from all over the world applied for one of the 200 coveted spots to participate in the Forum, an annual networking event that offers all accepted young researchers the great opportunity to personally interact with the laureates of the most prestigious prizes in the fields of mathematics and computer science.

For one week, the recipients of the Abel Prize, the ACM A.M. Turing Award, the ACM Prize in Computing, the Fields Medal and the Nevanlinna Prize engage in a cross-generational scientific dialogue with young researchers in Heidelberg, Germany.

Details

The 11th HLF will take place from 22 - 27 September 2024.

Selected Australian delegates in computer sciences are invited to apply for financial support to attend from the Science and Industry Endowment Fund–Australian Academy of Science (SIEF-AAS) Heidelberg Laureate Forum Fellowship.

Important notice

Delegates who apply for this Fellowship will be assessed on the basis of their qualifications and motivation to attend the HLF by an Academy-appointed expert panel. The Academy has funding to support two delegates from Australia. The delegates will be bound to the terms and conditions set at the time of the award.

Eligibility

To be awarded the Fellowship the applicant must be an Australian-based early career researcher in computer science who has been selected to attend the HLF and who meets the following criteria:

a) Is currently enrolled in a research higher degree (Master of Philosophy (MPhil), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or a Postdoctoral Fellowship) at an Australian University; or

b) Has (1) undertaken a research higher degree (Master of Philosophy (MPhil), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or a Postdoctoral Fellowship) and the applicant’s most recent higher degree has been conferred for less than five years and are (2) working in an Australian university, Australian publicly-funded research organisation or research-focused institution at the date of the Heidelberg meeting.

Applications will not be accepted for researchers who (1) hold a permanent position or (2) have participated in a previous Heidelberg Laureate Forum.

Terms of award

Successful applicants will receive a grant-in-aid of $3,500 towards the costs of travel to attend the HLF. Delegates must make their own travel arrangements.

Reporting requirements

Successful applicants will be required to submit a report and provide evidence that the funds have been appropriately expended within one month of the completion of the meeting.
