Critics Consensus

No Escape's talented cast and taut B-movie thrills are unfortunately offset by its one-dimensional characters and uncomfortably retrograde worldview.

Bilge Ebiri New York Magazine/Vulture No Escape takes the casual xenophobia of something like Taken, crossbreeds it with something altogether more noxious, then asks us to kick back and enjoy the ride. We don't. We can't. And the ride isn't that great to begin with. Dec 30, 2015 Full Review Alan Scherstuhl Village Voice No Escape is as accomplished as it is vicious. Munkhchimeg T One of the good western survival movie. Same vibe as train to busan. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/19/24 Full Review Bahad j I really liked the camera used in the movie. Because the angles and small details are captured very well. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/19/24 Full Review Kyle N Non stop tension from start to finish. Great movie, just as engaging and suspenseful rewatching now as when I first saw it in the theater. Wasn’t expecting this with Owen Wilson as the dramatic lead, but he’s great. Don’t understand why the reviews for this aren’t higher! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/18/24 Full Review Daniel P The suspense in this movie was off the charts!! And Owen played a great role. It was truly enjoyable Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/17/24 Full Review Rik O Pierce Brosnan and Owen Wilson in an action film. Turned it off two minutes in. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/06/24 Full Review Nathan W Definitely a strange premise for a movie. It wasn't bad, but I can't say that I loved it either. It didn't have the strongest or most extensive script, and instead relied on visual storytelling to fill in the gaps. Which was kind of a problem, since the filming was rather messy. You know, bad camera angles, too much shaky cam, and shots that were in way too tight. I don't know how else you could film something like this, but I'm gonna complain about it anyways. Not much in the way of a cast, but the core group did a decent job. I don't think I've ever seen Owen Wilson playing the role of a father before, but he was good at it. I can't explain why, but it felt right. (Such a big part of this movie deals with the lengths that a parent, or parents, are willing to go to protect their children). Of course its always good to see our old buddy Pierce Brosnan on the big screen. He didn't have the most screentime, but seemed to be having a good time nonetheless. The plot was a little unusual, but it wasn't bad at all. In fact, the longer things went on, the more it started to fell like a post-apocalyptic film. (Which are my favorite). Things did unfold slowly, however, and there was quite a bit of downtime. Wandering around and hiding, while integral to the story, just isn't the most exciting thing to watch. That being said, it was still interesting enough to have some entertainment value. I wouldn't call it gripping by any means, but I was a little invested in the family's well-being.
