Cassie D It had a lot of potential, particularly with the interwoven relationships of a small town. It was just a let down. It was predictable and there was just no real connection developed to any of the characters. You never had a chance to actually get to know any of them. The "small town sheriff" was at least interesting, but he never went anywhere. I noted that the film is based on a book. I suspect that all the meat of the story was eliminated in an attempt at creating "jump scares" and "atmosphere," bot of which failed. One mistake often made is casting a young actor as an old person and then putting a fake gray wig on them. Then they have them act overly dramatic to the point where not only are they not believable they are irritating. A preteen might enjoy this movie and think it's scary, but it's poorly written and acted. We thought it was a terrible waste of time. Some of the actors weren't too bad, but the script and some of the scenes were so unbelievable you had to laugh. One example was the fisherman who pulled the bike out of the muddy water. No fisherman with any brains is going to throw his lure into that sloppy mud hole that was probably a foot deep. It was ridiculous and not well thought out as were many of the scenes. I like to see independent filmmakers be successful, but this film was so poorly done and just irritating to watch. Written by Michael McDowell It is very much filmed and executed in the style of another of his famous works "Beetlejuice." In fact if you don't go into this movie with that thought then it may not be for you. "Cold Moon" lacks the humour Beetlejuice had and relies more on the tension build throughout the film. There are some lighter moments, a cameo by Tommy Wiseau and a brief shot of Beetlejuice in a graveyard but these are not strictly for laughs. The whole film is played pretty straight and as a genuine ghost story. However some of the music is reminiscent of Beetlejuice as are the sets. The film centres around a bank executive from a small Southern Town, who after getting a young girl pregnant, dispatches her and hides the body. This becomes his mental undoing as the ghost of the girl starts to haunt his every moment. Determined to press on with his objectives he ends up killing two more people both to hide the first murder and also to take possession of their land. After framing someone else for the murders he also becomes haunted by these victims as well. This all leads to a crescendo of madness ( did he really see them or was it in his mind ) until the final reveal. In all "Cold Moon" has some enjoyable moments but don't go into this film thinking it is a pure ghost story. " Cold Moon" is very much played out like a darker version of Beetlejuice.
