Shedd Aquarium, the namesake of John G. Shedd, a former president of Marshall Field and Co. This Aquarium once boasted world's largest indoor aquarium and oceanarium. It opened in May, 1903 with 5 million gallons of water, with one million gallons of seawater brought by train from Key West. It became the first inland aquarium with a permanent saltwater fish collection. With over 2,000,000 visitors a year, it makes the Shedd Aquarium on of the most popular attractions in Chicago.
