Archery returned to the Olympic Program for the first time since 1920 with a men’s and women’s individual event. Archery had continued to be an international sport during the 1920-72 period with multiple international competitions, including World Championships. In addition the sport had been contested at the Paralympics since 1960.
The 1972 archery events were held at the Bogenschießanlage, Englischer Garten, or in English, the Archery Range at the English Garden in München. This was a temporary venue constructed at the English Garden specifically for the archery events of the 1972 Olympics. No other events were contested there.
