Ruxandra Dragomir

Ruxandra Dragomir was a Romanian tennis player who played professionally from 1990 to 2005. Dragomir achieved a career-best singles ranking of 15 in the world in August 1997, and a doubles ranking of 21 in the world in September 1997. She competed at three Olympic Games and was the President of the Romanian Tennis Federation from 2009 to 2013.

Dragomir won her first ITF singles and doubles titles in the space of a week at different tournaments in Belgium in August 1990. She would go on to win seven singles and eight doubles titles on the ITF circuit during her career. On the WTA Tour Dragomir won four singles titles and five doubles titles. Her best performance at a Grand Slam tournament was at the 1997 French Open where she reached the quarter-finals in the singles.

Dragomir’s first Olympics was in the doubles tournament at the 1992 Barcelona Games. She teamed with Irina Spîrlea but the pair lost their first round match. Dragomir competed in the singles at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and the 2000 Sydney Olympics, losing in the first round on both occasions.
