Academics at Newman

With a passionate, experienced faculty and a rich and challenging curriculum, Newman provides the ideal environment for students to achieve their full potential. Students are encouraged to work hard, to dream big, and to see academic success as an exciting and worthwhile pursuit. Nearly one-fourth of Newman students have received National Merit recognition in the past five years, and Newman counts three Rhodes scholars among its alumni. Academics at Newman provide the foundation needed for success in college as well as in the 21st century global community.

Green Trees
Green Trees is a warm and welcoming “village” for early education. Our caring teachers are knowledgeable and passionate about this unique developmental stage. Everything we do is governed by the “three Cs” of connection, community, and constant learning. We are committed to providing the best early childhood program in New Orleans.
Lower School
In the Lower School, bright, cheerful classrooms are linked by roomy, art-filled hallways. Places to read—and places to be read to—are nestled throughout our campus, and active learning is abundant. Our curriculum encourages children to develop a lifelong love of learning. Students learn to respect and celebrate themselves, their friends, and the world around them. We emphasize the value in seeking excellence in character, community, and academics.
Middle School
Middle School is a period of change in any child’s life, and Newman allows students space to take risks and to tackle new challenges, all in a positive and supportive environment. As they progress from sixth to eighth grade, children become mature young adults with increasing independence and sense of identity. The Middle School gives students the tools they need for future academic success and allows them to begin to explore their place in the larger world.
Upper School
The Upper School is where students prepare for a lifetime of intellectual engagement and leadership in their professions and communities. In the classroom, students enjoy a varied curriculum with a broad array of AP and honors opportunities. Those needing extra help have a strong support system of advisors, learning specialists, and professional counselors. Students become well-rounded adults by joining a team or club, expressing themselves through the arts, or engaging in community service.
