About the Editors
Chief Editor: Carolina Perdigoto, PhD, Springer Nature, UK
Carolina Perdigoto did her PhD at the Institut Pasteur, in Paris, where she worked on cell fate regulation in intestinal stem cells in Drosophila. As an EMBO postdoctoral fellow at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, in New York, she studied transcription regulation and Polycomb-mediated repression in murine epidermal development and ageing. Carolina started her editorial career at Nature Communications in 2016, before joining Nature Structural & Molecular Biology in May 2021. Carolina is based in the London office.

Senior Editor: Katarzyna Ciazynska, PhD, Springer Nature, UK
Kat Ciazynska began her studies at King’s College London, where she worked in James Mason’s lab, applying biophysical techniques to investigate interactions of antimicrobial peptides with biological membranes. She carried out her doctoral work in the group of John Briggs at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, working on the structures of vesicular protein coats and viral glycoproteins using cryo-EM and cryo-ET. She joined Nature Structural & Molecular Biology in 2022. Kat is based in the London office.

Senior Editor: Sara Osman, PhD, Springer Nature, Germany
Sara Osman joined the International Max Planck Research School for Molecular Biology, which brought her to Göttingen where she gained her first lab experience during lab rotations in X-ray crystallography, protein biochemistry and NMR spectroscopy. She did her PhD work on the structural biochemistry and cryo-EM of the Mediator complex in Pol II transcription regulation, with Patrick Cramer at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry. Her interest in gene regulation then led her to study epigenetic silencing of chromatin in yeast with Ann Ehrenhofer-Murray in Berlin. Sara joined Nature Structural & Molecular Biology in 2021.

Senior Editor: Dimitris Typas, PhD, Springer Nature, Italy
Dimitris Typas carried out his PhD research with Haico van Attikum and Leon Mullenders at the Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands, studying how post-translational modifications regulate the DNA damage response. As a Marie Skłodowska-Curie postdoctoral fellow with Niels Mailand at the NNF-CPR, in Denmark, he investigated how the repressive heterochromatic environment affects the DNA double-strand break response. Finally, he focused on the interplay between atypical ubiquitylation and cellular recycling machineries, such as the proteasome and p97/VCP. Dimitris joined Nature Structural & Molecular Biology in 2022.

Consulting Senior Editor: Chiara Anania, PhD, Springer Nature, Germany
Chiara Anania obtained her Ph.D. at the Berlin Institute for Medical Systems Biology in the laboratory of Darío Lupiañez, where she studied the role of chromatin boundaries in developmental gene regulation. She joined Nature Genetics in 2023 and is based in Berlin, Germany. Chiara is currently a Consulting Editor with Nature Structural & Molecular Biology.

Consulting Senior Editor: Melina Casadio, PhD, Springer Nature, USA
Melina Casadio (formerly Herman) obtained her PhD in 2012 based on work conducted in Jean-Laurent Casanova’s lab at The Rockefeller University. Melina aimed to characterize the molecular, cellular, and immunological mechanisms underlying severe infection to a common virus, herpes simplex virus-1, in children. During her postdoctoral work, Melina studied glioblastoma multiform development in the laboratory of Viviane Tabar at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Melina joined the Journal of Cell Biology as a Scientific Editor in 2014 before joining Nature Cell Biology in June 2021. Melina is currently a Consulting Editor with Nature Structural & Molecular Biology and is based in the New York office.
Consulting Senior Editor: George Inglis, PhD, Springer Nature, USA
George received his PhD in Genetics and Molecular Biology from Emory University in Atlanta, USA, where his research focused on mouse models of voltage-gated sodium channel dysfunction, epigenomics and in vitro models of neuronal development. George started his editorial career at Communications Biology as an Associate Editor in 2020, where he handled papers related to molecular genetics, genomics, neuroscience, and microbiology. George joined Nature Structural & Molecular Biology in July 2024, as a member of the Research Cross-Journal Editorial team.

Consulting Senior Editor: Michelle Korda, PhD, Springer Nature, UK
Michelle managed advanced therapy clinical trials at University College London (UCL) and ran a stratified medicine consortium and clinical trial for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis at Queen Mary University of London. Her expertise encompasses advanced-therapy clinical trials and in vivo and in vitro models for bone-defect healing. Michelle obtained a PhD in biomedical engineering from UCL in 2007, focusing on stem cells’ regenerative capabilities around revision hip implants. Michelle started her editorial career at Nature Biomedical Engineering as part of its launching team in May 2016. In her role, she managed a broad spectrum of submissions, with a focus on medical devices and tissue engineering. Michelle joined Nature Structural & Molecular Biology in October 2024, as a member of the Research Cross-Journal Editorial team.
