In J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, "Amon Amarth" is the Sindarin word for "Mount Doom", the volcano in Mordor where Sauron forged the One Ring.

In 1993, the band recorded their first "Thor Arise" demo, but it was never officially released due to poor sound quality. In 2002, the demo was put on the special edition of "Versus the World" for the first time ever.
