Life expectancy in the U.S. decreased by 1.3 years from 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic to 2022, whereas in peer countries life expectancies fell by an average of 0.5 years in this period.  While life expectancy in the U.S. increased by 1.1 years from 2021 to 2022, U.S. life expectancy continues to lag behind life expectancy in comparable countries.
