All of the songs on this album were recorded in two days of hectic jamming and recording ... 20th and 21st July 1987.
Sixteen songs were finished, eleven of which appeared on the original vinyl release made in Russia on 31st October 1988. This was rock & roll diplomat Paul McCartney's attempt at international relations.
Two months later a second version was released (as my copy) which had thirteen tracks.
(The 11 tracker left off "Summertime" and "I'm Gonne Be A Wheel Someday")
The other three songs recorded are :
"I'm In Love Again" - released on the single "This One", and eventually the extra track that appears on the C.D.
"It's Now Or Never" - released on the charity album "The Last Temptation Of Elvis"
"I Saw Her Standing There" - Unreleased.

Only 40,000 copies were pressed and released of CHOBA B CCCP (Back In The U.S.S.R.) in it`s original Melodiya Russian pressing. And it`s this version that most fans got their hands on long before the eventual U.K. release (which does not include a vinyl version). This explains it's very poor showing in the album chart where it only reached no. 63 on it`s only week of entry !
This C.D. release does contain the extra track as mentioned above, which is 2:56 long.

This recording is a powerful document of McCartney's life-long love affair with '50s rock & roll. Each tune here is a gem from rock's golden age, material of the kind that inspired a young Lennon & McCartney to begin their life's work of the type that can also be heard on Lennon's similar styled album "Rock 'n' Roll". Despite being labelled "the fluffy Beatle" by Lennon detractors, McCartney always had a gift for interpreting R&B-based tunes, particularly those of Little Richard with his emotive soulful voice, and the sound found on spirited versions of Fats Domino's "I'm Gonna Be A Wheel Someday" and "Ain't That a Shame." Even non-rock diversions like the Gershwin classic "Summertime" is full of grit and passion.

The original album includes liner notes all in Russian, from original text by Roy Carr of the New Musical Express.
